I wonder if..........scintigraphy

Hello Good people

Almost all patients with metastatic prostate cancer present with a high serum PSA level. However, progression of prostate cancer can sometimes occur despite a low serum PSA level.

Is scintigraphy is the option to detect cancer Mets in case if PSA show low level.

Is monitoring biomarkers another option.....! to detect cancer mets if PSA show a low level.

Regards

George

Bone scans (scintigraphy) with CT is one kind of imaging that can be used, but also MRIs, and PET scans. For a discussion of the plusses and minuses of each see:

prostatecancer.news/2016/12...

Biomarkers may include bone alkaline phosphatase and lactose dehydrogenase as well as indicators of liver and kidney function.

Hello Tall

I did a test :

S-ALP1.0 µkat /L 0.6-1.8

Is this test a kind of Biomaker ????

That is serum alkaline phosphatase, which includes contributions from both the bone and the liver.

In my non-expert experience, I find my bone scintigraphy scans much easier to understand than my MRI slides or my PET CT slides. MRI and PET CT show the shape of each met up close and very clear. But I can only see a small area of the body, and only one met at a time. Plus I have to click through dozens of images, with help of a doctor, to find the correct slide and correct magnification. With bone scinti, I immediately see a blob for each met, and the location and relative size of each met is very clear. I see my whole body in one shot.

So it's like if I want to know where in North America is Memphis Tennnessee, I want a map of the Americas (bone scinti) rather than a floor plan of Schwab's on Beale Street (which is more like MRI and PET CT). But if I want to buy stationary goods in Schwabs, (or zap mets on spine bone T7, lower right side) give me the MRI.

Schwab's dry goods store located at 163 Beale Street Mempis, Tennessee 38103-3713 USA (901-523-9782) is temporarily closed due to COVID-19 Pandemic (Floor Plans available via mail request).

Thank you for the update! Glad to know Schwab's is still going. The pencil I got there in 1987 is shorter than it should be.

Good book recommendation, by the way, though I could only read a few pages because I'm Kindle-free. Have to make my own jokes again.

"The pencil I got there in 1987 is shorter than it should be."

Sadly, that statement is definately true for many things.....
