Hello! My father took a triple dose of Firmagon 3 days ago and besides feeling a bit tired and almost drunk the first day (and an itching on the injection spots) says he feel zero side effects. He even woke up the day after with an erection (which he told me about in a ”it doesnt seem to work??”-fashion, even though, yes, a liiittle too much information perhaps, but since my mother passed away and now with sick parent number 2 I’m getting used to trying to think of everything too personal related to the body as ”medically interesting”). He is worried that this indicates the drug is not working, but does it have to imply that?

Firmagon - no side effects not working?
Firmagon lowers testosterone very rapidly but not on day one after the injection. If you want to check if it works, make a blood test and get the testosterone level checked. If it is below 20 ng/dl (=0,2 ng/ml,=0,7 nmol/l), it is working well. Wait for a week now before getting this test done.
No. 3 days is too short - his residual T has to be cleared from his serum. The only way to know if it is working is to have a testosterone test after a month. It almost always works.
No no TopBanana. Give it time ! Don’t worry about TMI. We can relate to even the weirdest scenarios. Firmagon worked well for me as my first shot . It can for your dad as well . Some fatigue can come . Encourage him to be active . Good luck 🍀
Here is a figure showing how Firmagon and Leuprolide lower testosterone in the first weeks. You can see that Firmagon gets the testosterone below castration level within a week while Leuprolide has just returned to baseline after causing a testosterone flare.
Thank you very much for the replies! I told my father now and about the test and send the figure.
Same with me. Just give it 3 weeks. I too was concerned the shot failed but...
Sounds a lot like my reaction to Firmagon. But it works. A little fatigue will begin to creep up and then the hot flashes, but I've had very little issues with Firmagon.
Tell your Dad to take a picture next time...... (of course, only for the family album)....

I'm no doctor, but sounds like your father should be chugging down the tracks for a long time. Btw, my mother was so Swedish she said Ja for yes.
I tried translating ”chugging down the tracks” but Google said that in Swedish it means something like ”chewing the tracks” (?) Meaning staying alive a long time?? A slow train chewing the tracks. A nibble at the time. I hope! (Not a prefered snack.) And haha very nice to hear that you had a economically ingenious Swedish mother, did she leave a note about the money in the furniture? Or was she doing more the style of a dictator wife and planing a trip to Switzerland? Rätta takter!!
Oh, yes. Way to go. No, mom didn't leave a note. She lived very independently until the last few months. She was very stubborn. Her way, or the highway. It was 109 degrees here, Central California, the other day. I could use a trip to Switzerland. It really sounds like you and your dad and his doctors have everything under control. Hopefully his issues stay minor for many years.
And all of Monte's inherited furniture is from Ikea..... not to mention the meatballs.....

When my mother passed, my brother decided to donate her furniture. She lived on next to no income at all for many, many years. He found money stuffed in almost every stick of furniture. It all came up to $25,000. We still laugh about all the times we took her out to lunch and dinner. I'm half Scotch and half Swedish; I can really pinch a penny. And get high, and throw away a dollar. And yes, the meatballs were great. That was back before my taste buds were corrupted by ADT, and the meat was real.
