Just got my first Lupron shot and wondering what the typical wait time is before starting salvage radiation?

2 months. They will check that your testosterone and PSA are minimal by then.

Thank you for the reply. It seems like I am being rushed. Only a few days between the Casodex and the Lupron shot, And now they are recommending radiation within a month of the Lupron.

The critical thing is that your PSA is undetectable or very low before radiation begins. With covid-19, some ROs are recommending a 6-month shot and waiting up to 6 months before starting radiation. The radiation should be on a shortened schedule.

I was on Lupron for about six weeks before SRT started.

1 month for me. My PSA was undetectable at SRT start. FYI, that was 2012. My PSA is still undetectable today so hope you get same benefit. I did stay on Lupron and casodex for 18 months. Good luck.

Thanks, I’ll add for audience that I did whole pelvic SRT, 70 Gy over 35 sessions, first 25 to bed and nodes, last 10 to bed only. The ADT2 for 18 months was a difficult time. I started Avodart after my T recovered and planning to continue the Avodart for 2 more years. I take 3x a week and measure DHT once a year. I have no references to cite but it’s the path I’ve chosen.

It’s working for you 👏🏼

I har to wait 3 months which sounded like standard here in Denmark where I live. But notice, I also started Zytiga after One month after my first Eligard (=Lupron). They said that the prostate could Change during the first 2 months (side, position), so after the 3 months Tue prostate is more "stable"... That is what I was told by the doctors here...

My SRT started 7 weeks after starting Firmagon. I got first injection on June 06 2019 second on July 3ed, SRT August 1st 2019.

Firmagon effect is potent and much faster than Lupron.

My Doc said 6 minimum. Just by coincidence my best friend, Dick Woods, went into a coma at that time. G9/3b, RP ~2 years ago, PSA .023 slowly rising to .039 1 month Firmisgone, now 1 month on Lupron. 13 days into SRT. 33 sessions/66 Grey on the way. For me, life is great. Thanks be to God.

My Dr said 2 months turned out to be 3 for me. My RO said I could wait but glad I didn't as I squeaked in the last few right when the covid restrictions started kicking in.

Slightly over 4 weeks for me, but I was starting to feel the effects of the shot then as well. I have no idea what my testosterone level actually was.

After 4 weeks T should be near zilch. I think they say ~6 weeks to be sure. It helps greatly improver your odds with SRT which is why it is done.

About 6 weeks. The prostate had shrunk 1/3rd by that time.

4 months. ADT started end Jan 2017 with tablets for a month then injection every 3 months. Radiation started late May 2017 for 37 treatments. ADT injections continued for 30 months in total. Stopped May 2019 and now waiting to see. PSA is increasing along with T. Onco says its expected and not to worry unless PSA goes to 4 or above in which case they will scan to see whats going on. ADT caused loss of libido, ED, chronic fatigue, serious loss of muscle mass. 6 months after stopping ADT, erections and libido returned but lost 2 inch length that didnt return nor did muscle mass or energy level. Quality of life is miserable but its better than being dead. Pain seems to be something I have to live with as Dr refuses to give anything. Just says try Ibuprofen lol. Good luck

30 months is a long time on ADT but that’s past for now. If PSA rising then watch doubling time. I assume you still have a prostate so hope anything above 4 ng/mL is a long time from today. You can beat yourself back into shape. Keep at it. Good luck.
