Localized,regionalized and distant

I was told somewhere or read the difference of the three . My understanding is localized is confined to the prostate, regionalized is spread the pelvis includeding any structures within and distant is distant organs or bones outside the pelvis . Have I got wrong info on this?

As far as I know this is correct. Why do you ask?

That is my understanding. But consider, this is usually only defined based on clinical significance, which depends on the resolution of the scans used. If nobody is looking for the distant cancers, or looks but does not find, the cancer is defined as "local" and the potential for "cure" is claimed.

But many of us will contest that by the time PC is of clinical significance in the prostate itself, it has commonly spread in a microscopic manner that escapes detection by the standard scans. So in that sense, a good percentage of "local" cancers are truly "distant." Hence, the common rise of PSA for many men after supposedly "curative" treatment.

We ran into this problem with our urologist. The retro-peritoneal lymph nodes were the metastatic sites and the urologist kept labeling them as regional. None of the scan reports mentioned any metastatic pelvic lymph nodes. But left side pelvic lymph nodes had been removed two years earlier during surgery to remove a leiomyosarcoma on his leg.
