Will travel restrictions, due to COVID-19, lead to patients being allowed to participate in clinical trials remotely?

Last week I asked our MO if COVID19 will open doors of clinical trials to more patients by allowing remote participation and he said that is possible...fingers crossed!!!

Remote participation in clinical trials sounds very surprising to me. In the trial I was in I went through multiple physical exams by various doctors before and after the actual treatment. They wanted to know everything they could learn about my prostate cancer and my reactions to treatment.

I was wondering the same. Perhaps they could do this via specific oncologists across the country who they know can and will follow all the strict guidelines?

You might be right. I went for a consultation at a hospital in Baltimore County and the oncologist I saw said that his hospital used to participate in trials in what sounded like that way.

I am currently in a trial at Hopkins that required me to travel there every month. Now, do to the virus, they send the trial meds to my home and I get labs at Quest sent there. MRI's are done locally as well.

Same here. I’ve Been in a trial at MSK for about a year now. They are starting to mail me the meds and bloodwork and other tests done locally. The trial doc and nurse call me to discuss side effects etc. I think the decisions to do this are made patient by patient
