Trump was being irresponsible in his statements re chloroquine..... we are a long way from definitive statements about efficacy. Typical trump... self aggrandizing to the detriment of all
The whole world(India,China,Thailand etc) is using Hydroxychloroquine and saving lives and here is our dumb FDA guy who is obsessed with clinical trials....for him beurocracy is more important than American lives. Chloroquine has been and is being used by billions of people all over the world to treat Malaria for over 50 years and we know almost everything about this medicine.
Big pharma and its bought pimps want to discover a new medicin for coronavirus to sell each pill for 100 dollars. They want to block Chloroquine because you can buy 100 pills for a dollar. Do you see the clinical trial mafia and their sinful methods...I want American lives saved first and f the clinical trials. They can do those afterwards.
OK..gonna stop now or this will get completely out of hand....
BTW.... don't disagree at ALL with your feelings about big pharma....which is why I don't want to see extensive clinical testing BEFORE compassionate use.... if early indications are that that the drug is reasonably safe to use in C-19 USE IT and let the evidence accrue ( or not) in the field where it is doing some good.... don't wait for big pharma to rebrand some already existing antiviral and price gouge for it.....
It still needs trials before FDA will approve. Trump may have jumped the gun a bit. The FDA commissioner seemed to counter that also but maybe we will get lucky.
But moments later, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn cautioned that chloroquine had not yet been approved for treating COVID-19.
“We want to launch a large clinical trial using malaria drug chloroquine for treatment of COVID-19,” Hahn said, adding, “Again, we want to do that in a setting of a clinical trial.”
I heard him say these two drugs were available for compassionate use. Meaning doctors can request usage but must report results🍸🙄🤠

Clinical trial? The hospitals will soon be bursting with critically ill people. Give half of them chloroquil and treat the other half without it. See what happens. To be merciful, those who want to try it should be able to. Desperate times call for desperate measures and call for stupid measures like clinical trials to be dispensed with.

Agree it should be available....don't agree that it's efficacy has been established for COVID-19... people will be clamoring for it and if it does not appear to be causing undue side effects that will have MORE people using MORE medical services because of SE's...then why not..... Not in agreement with formal clinical trials as much as president not speaking out of turn re: unproven efficacy.... We simply do not yet know if the benefits outweigh the risks re; use in C-19.... I'd err on the side of taking the chance given the current climate.

That's an honest if admittedly awkward statement. Maybe it works for me and not for you or vice versa. No absolutes when it comes to plagues.
I wish Trumph would have just announced it and then turned over the specifics to the CDC guy to answer questions and bolster credibility about Cholorquine.
Not only does Trumph not speak well, he exaggerates, obfuscates and even self promotes in the midst of a crisis.

Agree, I was asked if I felt comfortable going to my part time job this week considering my health issues. I have no problem with being there, no direct contact with the public , do social distancing , wash hands, do not touch face and use sanitizing stuff. Chemo was done 2 years ago so my immune system had recovered and would put a hardship on the office where I work. I keep up on the news but listen to the scientific community not the big orange president that is self serving and gives false information and lies.
Come on guys dont make this political, everyone is working for our benefit. This a time for solidarity, not criticism. You have no idea how much pressure all government departments, administration, employers. Care givers, first reponders, and clerics are under at this time.
