Dull ache in right kidney

Has anyone experienced a dull sometimes increasing in intensity and sometime less intense ache or pain in one of the kidneys?

If so what was the upshot/diagnosis? CT scan or ultrasound to check it out. A quick bit of research reveals that the contrast dye used in CT scan can be harmful to the kidneys. Last time I had a CT scan it put me in hospital with severe pain, fever and diahorea (they did ask if I was allergic to shellfish before flooding my system with dye) I am not allergic to shellfish.... However I'm almost 100% sure whatever they jammed up my arse with their tube made me very very ill.

I had the same (with severe pain) which led to the discovery of my prostate cancer. Prostate growth was blocking the utterer and caused hydronephrosis. They put in an stent initially, and took the stent out when they removed my prostate. Afterwards, I always felt some dull discomfort there. You should definitely do some imaging to make sure. Do not take it lightly.

Thanks for the response. I'll get it checked out.

Get it checked out, the kidneys are too important.

That would be a possibility I suppose however the dull ache has been hovering around for a few months and increases in intensity depending on how I move my body. I'll see what the ultrasound reveals. I'm hoping it's just cos I'm an old buzzard - typical aches and pains thing.

Take care John and good health.

As mentioned below: keep hydrated. I also have a couple of cysts in my kidney(s)... I think that's normal with age.. Do you see any blood in your urine (visible) or did your Urologist see any during your urine culture test? Hope all is ok.... keep us informed...

Whatever you do make sure your properly hydrated, the kidneys can’t work properly without it, my Dr has got me on nearly 4 litres a day or 3, 8oz glasses every 3 hrs which is nearly 4 ltrs, also 3x8 oz = 24 oz, so in 24 oz of water I have to put in 1/2 a teaspoon of Celtic sea salt, NOT table salt, I would think pink salt would be good to, that is to allow the water to hydrate the whole body and not just flush the kidneys and I have to have 6 bananas but NEVER all at once, that’s for the potassium to allow the salt in the water to hydrate the body as it’s sodium that controls hydration, NEVER have all the bananas at once as it’s possible that the excess potassium can unbalance the magnesium ratio and possibly bring on a heart attack, I would think it’s unlikely but my Dr says it’s possible, but whatever just get plenty of water down ya regularly

Good advice I do make one or two banana shakes during the day and hydrate a lot cos it's hot here in Thailand. I see on a scan from 2 years back they saw cysts in both kidneys - googling around I see it's normal to have cysts after about 50/60 years of age however if there is blockage that is problematic. I'll get it checked out when I see my onco soon. I'm very grateful for all the responses I've received and for the advice and support from the people on this forum. Take care now.
