Just some basic info for you.

Diarreah is usually caused by a virus, a bacteria or some preformed toxin in the food

If diarreah starts abruptly the chances are more of a virus or preformed toxin ingestion with stale food item.

Most cases of diarreah are self limited meaning they last for a week or so and then go away.

Antibiotics might be prescribed to kill the bacteria.

But the biggest danger during this week or so time is DEHYDRATION and ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE.

People need to drink as much fluid as possible by mouth and if can not drink, they need intravenous fluids to keep the hydration level good.

Secondly, electrolytes have to be supplied in form of coconut water, gatorade, lemonade or electrolyte solutions.

In difficult cases, doctor might order stool culture to know the exact name of organism causing diarreah. Sometimes, there are non infectious causes but most common are infectious causes. This is for information purpose only.

This is almost certainly not related tohis cancer. There are over the counter (OTC) remedies but since he cannot keep water down this incident probably shouldn't be treated that way. Call your regular doctor or go to Urgent Care, he soon will need IV hydration to prevent further complications.

My husband has this several years ago. I called the doctor and he gave him an injection to stop it immediately. He was completely dehydrated in a few hours , it can really be life threatening .

If he has diarrhea and can't drink water, you should take him to the Emergency Room to get IV fluids.

Try a jug of that grape sports drink on him to see if he can keep it down. It goes down much easier than water and is tasty. It also has lots of electrolytes to replenish him. Get him to drink lots ... as much as he can. Loss of fluids can get nasty quickly .. getting him several bags of IV fluids administered is always your best choice if you have the opportunity. I’ve had as many as three bags going at the same time when I’ve been dehydrated.

Best wishes 💪💪💪
