Chemo update

Have cycle 5 of Dodoxal last Friday where I have been seeing a 50% in PSA each cycles. Well yesterday my result show a rise from 1.6 to 26 in the last 3 weeks. So looks like a failure again.

Have note to Onc to see what’s next, I have scans scheduled in 3 weeks. This is a a sneaky cancer.

Is that 1.6 to 26 or 2.6? Seems like to much of a jump.

Thanks for keeping us informed. Hope that's a typo for the PSA. I wonder if they could try the other chemo or do a combination of the two types.

I’ve done gene testing so I’m hopeful we’ll find something that works. Or as you mention a combo.

It would be nice to get through a treatment protocol without failing before I’m done. But after 6 years in to the battle and never hitting non detectable , I need to reset my expectations.

I know of what you speak. My first post on here was about how none of the (now 19) years of treatment had ever worked and how tired I am of the roller coaster and unpredictability. The general reply was that I should be grateful for what we had.

I can get real gloomy when I think that this isn't what I had planned for retirement but then some treatment works a little. Others get a forced retirement they don't want.

It's easy to get discouraged but think of all the living and enjoyment you've had even since being diagnosed. Read that book I just finished called, "Driving Miss Norma" it is so inspirational.

Thanks for the note and support. The treatments are tolerable and I handle the side effects fairly well. Like you mentioned this is not how I had planned on spending my retirement, but after working aat a major company for 40yrs and traveling the world I had crossed a lot of things off my bucket list.

I do get in the dumps some time but generally just talking to my wife pulls me out of any funk. I will read Driving Miss Nora, thank you for the recommendation.

I have not discussed that yet. First time through failed in 8 months. But anything is worth a try

This may give some clues as to next steps:

Xofigo+Provenge may be a good combo if you haven't had them:

After 4 shots of Docetaxel my Psa went from 12 to 46, and it was declared a failure. After 4 shots, my doc booked me in for Lu177 which worked a lot better.

I had drop in PSA but scans continued to show new spots developing. Docetaxel is not as effective as other agents, but that is where most people start. Other agents have more side effects I think. That is my experience because I am doing cabazataxel now and having a lot more side effects than I did with Docetaxel 2 years ago.

interesting read as I set in the waiting room at Duke for my first round. My PSA is now over 220 so 50% drops every 3 weeks are what I am hoping for! Good luck with your next sept and keep us informed...seems with this monster there is always a next step but that does beat the alternative!

Hello Jackpine, the 6 Lu177 treatment you had were successful. So why don't you continue to have some more treatments? It is possible to have until 10. Maybe you have to pay for it but some people did more Lu177 without damage and maybe you could try the combo therapy with actinium225?

Claud,

Thank you for this suggestion. I responded well to LU 177 but I recurred within 3 months of stopping LU177. But worth a second time
