Les: so you're about 70yo now, and have already beaten the odds surviving G8-Stage-t2b for 18 years. Congrats! I assume you received disability all the way back to DX since you were exposed to AO. What was your treatment and how is it going now?

I forgot to ask you - do you eat a specific diet too? If so, what kind? Or do you just focus on the activity. Do you keep moving or is it mostly targeted exercise of 300+ minutes per week?

OK Les, I'll check them out. I do exercise 4-5 days a week but not as many minutes as you. I might start doing the 45 like you. I do read nutritionfacts.org. I'll check out the two youtube vids as well. My energy has been lower this year. Need to raise it somehow.thanks,

George

Caffeine has helped me with fatigue and mindset. I take caffeine pills so I pee less than if drinking coffee.Walking on an incline is a great safe exercise for me.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply tolespaul123

That is a great exercise. I do that sometimes.

Have you tried matcha green tea powder drinks for energy? Better than coffee. Do you do any kind of mindfulness sessions? Do you take any supplements?

lespaul123 profile image
lespaul123 in reply toGeorgeGlass

Thanks for the matcha suggestion. Mindfulness…. for me good music and exercise are meditative. I used to take a lot of supplements - grape seed extract, CoQ10, resveratrol, Holy basil - Now I try to get my nutrients from whole food.

Green tea, ground flax seeds, garlic, turmeric, broccoli and brussel sprouts are frequently in the mix. I’m no expert. This is what resonates with me.

Hope you’re doing well brother!

I watch military scooters make terrible decisions on a regular basis. I watch political experts make horrible decisions daily, financial experts are wrong more than they are right. It’s people with the powers of observation and humility that are usually most accurate. Doctors are usually like all other professions. They do what they are taught in school, and they ignore everything else.

Do you eat: nuts, fruits and whole grains at all, whey or veggie protein?

Ketogenic? I think keto would cause too much weight loss.

Have you ever talked to a person on this site , called bluepacifica?

I’m doing pretty good bro. Just living this altered reality the best I can.

lespaul123 in reply toGeorgeGlass

Nuts - not so much. I’ve heard pumpkin seeds are good for us. Fruits - I buy big bags frozen blueberries/strawberries. Delicious and never go to waste.

Grains- Steel cut oatmeal - with above mentioned berries.

Veggie Protein - my fav - Aldi’s

Black Bean Chipotle Burgers - they are great!!

Keep your chin up friend.

Welcome aboard lespaul123....we have many vets here. I’ve known a few that got AO over there. One friend was hanging upside down in the shit as he was crew on a chopper dropping it and got shot down . He was trapped in it 4 yrs before getting rescued out of there? I call him the guru . Plagued by many cancers but still enjoying life . You got dxed in 2003 ? What treatments have you done ? How were the past 18 yrs for you ? I was 53 at dx in 2015 . Any advice ?

Welcome Lespaul. I am your age and also Viet Vet (USMC) but no AO. Assume you are a guitarist from the name.

Why not add a few support elements to your treatment plan since you are here for (hopefully ) the long run?

Adding celecoxib since you are on Zoladex is beneficial. And consider a statin such as atorvastatin. How are your scans? Consider getting a Ga-PSMA scan if others are negative. Knowledge ie power. This forum provides support and many valuable ideas but you also must be discriminating.

Semper Fi and thank you for your service.

So, you never did surgery or any radiation. What do you take with the lupron? Casodex and proscar? How long do you stay on and off adt as you do it intermittently?

lespaul123 profile image
lespaul123 in reply toGeorgeGlass

Yes I take casodex with intermittent Zoladex when my psa is ascending, which I test frequently.A sentence I read on Harvard School of Public Health said- Men would did vigorous activity (more than three hours per week) had a 61% lower risk of prostate cancer-specific death compared with men who did less than one hour per week. No matter what treatment protocol you choose always have that 61% in your back pocket. It yields only positive side effects. This has worked for me so far. I am no expert.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply tolespaul123

Yep, i agree. What is your psa doubling time when you are taking a break?

lespaul123 profile image
lespaul123 in reply toGeorgeGlass

It has varied widely, from almost two years at the start(2002-2003). Now 3-6months which is then manipulated by ADT. I get my psa tested monthly. I put it on a graph. This is what works for me. I’m just a ham and egger - no expert - muddling my way thru with what resonates with me. I hope your journey lasts a long long time.

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply tolespaul123

The psa doubling time varies when it’s below 1 but it’s usually pretty consistent when it’s in whole numbers. Do you let it go into whole numbers? Are you in the less than three months range or less than six months or less than a year or greater than a year? Oh I’m sorry, you said 3-6. Gotcha. Thanks man, best to you as well. George
