Anyone have links to studies on life expectancy?
Specifically once one becomes castrate resistant.
Anyone have links to studies on life expectancy?
Specifically once one becomes castrate resistant.
Castrate resistance after failing Lupron is different than castrate resistance after you've also failed Zytiga and Xtandi, and even at that point I don't think you are considered metastatic based on the newer scans. (I think you're considered metastatic with bone scans and ct scans which are less likely to pick up mets). Anyways, here is a study with a nonogram for mCRPC which also explains why longevity is so varied from one man to another:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Wow...I just read that link...according to that, I have about 18 months left...no way that’s right for patients receiving treatment in 2020.
That's why I don't read these things. It's just one more thing you can't change and it takes away from the quality of life we have for whatever time we have left. We can't use statistics to predict a future that doesn't even exist. If you are reading this, you are 100% alive. Eternal Now.
They gave me 12-18 mo. three years ago. Now PSA at 0.130 and steady. Those guesses just add stress to you and your loved ones.
In the study, I love the phrase "indolent disease progression". That's what I want: indolent disease progression.
No one knows. Everyone is different.
My doctor called;
D - I have bad news and worse news!
M - Give me the bad news.
D - You have one day to live!
M - What could be worse than that?
D - I was supposed to call you yesterday!!
Keep Fighting Brother!!!

The life expectancy predictions seem all over the place and vary based upon country, age, etc. One thing I’ve learned is the gov’t thinks we’re doomed after a second biochemical recurrence. If not already you can max out your social security pretty easily. I took SS at 62 so that we could add children’s benefits to our youngest sons college fund. I’m 72 now and working again but when I finally retire I plan to file for SS disability, and a nice bump in benefits, as I’ve experienced a second recurrence.
I don't understand those reports, too many variables to work out what is relevant to me.
My Oncologist said 44 months from his experience and what my scans show. I marked the date in my diary July 2022, I figured a good day and reason for a party lol
I’d just throw that date away and go with the flow brother. Don’t listen to that crap , everyone is different and new treatments are out all the time. I’m 12 months past the expiration date on my carton and still chugging fine. Everyone is different. 💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍
When I was first diagnosed 12 years ago, they said that my maximum life expectancy would be five years… The way I dealt with it was to become an ambassador for Maker’s Mark! The way I looked at it was, if things went my way, I’d finally be able to get my bottles from my barrel that was put away when I became an ambassador, and that came true! It gave me something fun and exciting to look forward to…
Statistical Data on this comes out every 5 yrs, and look at advances in treatment in just the past 5 yrs...it can't keep up...Cure?, No, but significant prolonging of life nonetheless, live for the day as we all should...We are all different in our responses and only God knows our eventual EOL date.
Why would I read that. When time comes it’s time. I think everyone should be thankful for
Everyday. Sick or not no one is guaranteed
Young or old how many days , years you have
Just enjoy ❤️
Enjoy each day you are living. Everyone has a date if you have prostate cancer or not. We are all in the same line. Don't look at those life expectancy years they don't help. God is the only one that knows when that day may be. Stay positive and be thankful for each day.
