Urinary oxalate excretion levels and increase risk of kidney stones....Taking turmeric found in studies to increase Kidney Stones!

On my latest Urinalysis I noted a high level of Oxalate secretion. I researched and found that a high level is indicative of (can be) Kidney Stones. Then I researched further and found that turmeric has been shown to increase the Oxalate level and the occurrence of Kidney stones. I just wrote my oncologist to see what he says...but I'm thinking I might have to give up Turmeric. I do not want to add Kidney stones onto my list of "ailments". I've got enough already...LOL.

Has anyone had this issue come up? Just curious....as I like to say ....

"It's not easy being pretty"...I feel like I am in one of those proverbial

"Damned if I do/damned I don't" situations.

Help Calgon...take me away!

Last year I woke up one day, went to urinate and noticed that my urine was the color of Lapsang tea! I'll skip the details, but I wound up in the emergency room of our local hospital. A CAT scan eventually revealed that I had probably passed a kidney stone. In fact, the scan revealed several small stones waiting in the Green Room, so to speak, for their own debut. Two points: one, I was, but am no longer, on Xarelto, at the time: this probably was responsible for the presence of a great amount of blood; two, I take mucho tumeric. I also like my spinach, eat nuts and nut butters and, at that time, was taking a tablespoon of beet powder every morning. You may be correct about the tumeric, but I still take it because it is a valuable nutrient. Fortunately, the stone was small enough that I did not feel its passing, the others also appear small. There is an herb, Chanca Piedra, that is supposed to dissolve kidney stones. It's available on Amazon, but, as of now, I have not bought it.

thanks for you story. Hmmm....I guess I should just hope I create small ones. I did notice a little blood one time in my pads I have started wearing due to stress incontinence...it could have been when I passed a small stone....HMMMM. The blood was what caused me to have a visit with the urologist and a cystoscopy to check on things. Everything look good in bladder...but scaring from radiation and HIFU on prostate has apparently weakened the sphincter muscle....so he's told me to do KEGELS morning and night and hope for improvement on the leakage....I've yet to hear what he says about possibility of stones from the bloodwork.

None of this getting old is easy....LOL.

Thanks again,

gJohn

Just think, if it can dissolve kidney stones it would probably dissolve your kidney(s).

It’s individual , I eat the crap out of turmeric everyday for fours years and don’t have this problem. Also I take a supplement “ Meriva “ with curcumin daily . Are you self diagnosing what “ might” happen? Id say that Costco hotdogs should be cut out before turmeric . Good luck greatjohn...✌️

My Oncologist told me a hot dog works just as good as turmeric, beets and pomegranate seeds. I do for some reason always meditate better with a hot dog in my stomach.

I believe a person who replied earlier had once suggested jumping up and down would dislodge kidney stones. So jumping up and down while eating a Costco hot dog may work. If not, jumping up and down while eating a Costco hot dog and screaming at the ER should get you prompt service. Good luck. No kidney stones needed. (Did you see the poor guy on the Deadwood series? Think about having kidney stones back then! Deadwood, where the State Troopers first took me into custody at the age of 3 years. Sorry, I do regress.)

funny you mention Costco hotdogs...we had them for a late breakfast/brunch again today. I'm ready to eat what I please....period. Now that (your later reply) implies we shouldn't eat spinach....what really is left to eat that's okay? blueberries and unsweetened organic oatmeal cooked in the tears of 16 y.o. virgins? Everything is so complicated....I miss getting to be "me"...

thanks & good luck with this complicated journey through the "mine fields" of our minds...

John.

You should try some of j-o-h-n's blueberry and unsweetened organic oatmeal cooked in the tears of ex-wives. Very good, but fantastically expensive.

I still take turmeric, but I gave up juicing with spinach after developing a couple kidney stones not long after after starting juicing with it. The second stone (a large one) required surgery. I'm with you...don't want to add kidney stones to my ailments and and definitely want to avoid any ailments that require surgery. I never had problems with kidney stones before and had taken calcium supplements for the last 40 years or so. Since eliminating the spinach from my juicing (year and a half ago or so), I haven't had kidney stone problems.

Take Care,

Monty

I didn’t know that spinach is bad ?

Not really sure it is🤔

Sorry...I don't think it is bad...if it is not overconsumed like I was doing. I still eat it often...cooked.

What made it bad "for me" was juicing with handfuls of it daily. Too much of a good thing.

Take Care,

Monty

First, it is better to check with your doctor before starting a new supplement. Second, supplement forms of turmeric that are hydro-soluble absorb better in the body and you may be able to take less for it to be effective.

My husband had a no pain kidney stone that gave him brown urine. They could not find the cause but a kidney stone showed up coincidentally on a pCa scan. Caused him No pain but had to be removed with out patient procedure.

He was told to drink lots more water but he never listens.
