Docetaxel without ADT?

It is my understanding that docetaxel primarily affects cells with high metabolism. ADT reduces this mitotic activity. It sounds like ADT should not be given with docetaxel to increase the kill effect on the cancer cells. Does anyone know anything about this?

I have been reading the Stampede trial on the use of docetaxel + ADT which is showing improvement in survival rate in Adv PC. Pls do go into this site : stampedetrial.org/participa... ..... I have decided to go ahead docetaxeln+ADT in mid Aug. FYI, I have been doing Zytiga+Prednisone and ADT + Zometa since my diagnosis and PSA had come down from126 to 0.41 as of July. Hope this helps

Docetaxel stabilizes tubulin so that the cancer cell cannot replicate. ADT blocks androgen receptor-based mitosis. So they both work synergistically to block mitosis. However, that is only part of the story. Paradoxically, androgens may also work synergistically with docetaxel. These paradoxical effects are explained in the following article:

Allen,always enjoy your insight.

BTW, I could have continue the current treatment of Zytiga+prednisone , zometa and ADT till it loses it effectiveness. But I have chosen to seek decoetaxel + ADT treatment based on the Stampede trial. Wish me luck and pray for me. Thanks

Zytiga and docetaxel had pretty much the same effectiveness in STAMPEDE, but docetaxel works particularly well when there are multiple mets.

I asked my MO the same question, and he basically referred to the STAMPEDE trial showing that it works. I'm guessing the docetaxel at least takes out any colonies of hormone insensitive cells.

Several other thoughts:

* I and many other men have had great responses to this treatment.

* 10 years from now more will be known about how to fight cancer, just like we know more now than 10 years ago.

* Somehow, a few men with dire prognoses 10 years ago are still alive today.
