Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

I have been given Zometa infusions monthly for eleven years. I was aware of the dental implications from Zometa. After having gone thru the gamete of prostrate cancer treatments, I now find that I have developed the feared "ONJ" Osteonecrosis of the Jaw. Since Medicare is my only insurance, dental insurance is not included. I am going to see an oral surgeon this week to evaluate my next step. My question is, when does treatment of a mainly bone problem and will most likely result in surgery become "medical vs dental" therefore covered by medicare?

I think Medicare covers it - it's not a dental problem, it's jaw surgery.

It might be safest to get the surgery done by an oral surgeon with an MD as opposed to a DDS.

Not that the MD will be better, just the bill is unlikely to be classified as dental.
