Egg Whites?

Any studies linking egg whites to quicker death in those with Advanced PCx? I have read that whole eggs speed death but haven't been able to find anything about only egg whites.

I sure hope not. I’ve read about egg yolks and have since had an egg white vegetable omelette for breakfast maybe 5 days a week.

I eat 2 eggs a day (sometimes more). Obviously with the yolk.

It appears I am speeding towards death :-)

Just add a couple strips of bacon and you’re toast.

I eat bacon once in a while. I am far from being toast :-)

Try some toast with jam. Goes well with bacon and eggs.

I don't eat bread as far as possible because it raises blood sugar. And, so will jam.

George,

The USDA Database is a good place to check the composition of a food:

ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/...

Choline = 1.1 mg / 100 g.

Patrick thanks for posting the link!

Any source for the lowest acceptable choline in our prostate cancer diet?

Should it be a zero choline daily?

Choline is an essential nutrient. It would be unfortunate if anyone in the group tried to get below their daily requirement.

Most people get just enough choline, i.e. it would be unusual for someone to have twice their daily requirement, say, IMO.

Eggs are always given as the best source of choline, but most of us would not eat a lot of eggs in a day. With glucose, we have the "glycemic index" & "glycemic load". For glycemic index, glucose=100, but who would eat a lot of glucose? The glycemic load reflects the actual portion size that most people whould eat. We need something like that for choline. One egg a day is not a problem.

I don't see anyone here warning of the dangers of cauliflower & cod.

The weak association you're thinking of is related to choline levels...and one of the largest choline sources is from egg yolks. Egg whites don't have significant amounts.

Before dx, I ate an egg with yolk every morning for probably 60 years. Now, I’ve cut back to 2-3 eggs per week. Need to eat the yolk, which has lutein, which helps prevent macular degeneration.

If it doesn't lengthen you life by avoiding egg whites it will seem so much longer without them!

Im sure you all remembered the egg scare years ago. Now for the average layman on the street eggs are ok for you. Now, even though i have Pca ill eat eggs, bacon, scrapple, and just about anything i want. All are in smaller portions though. If i got to put up with Pca and the treatments I'm going to enjoy eating like i dont have it!

The idea is eating a plant based diet.

Watch this video and let me know what do you conclude :)

I liked ITCandy’s reply. I think some people failed to appreciate his sardonic sense of humor, and be able to get a smile 😃 out of a good yolk.

Are the shells considered egg whites?

As long as you are a Small-Endian, and always crack your eggs on the small end, I think you will be all right.

Not eating egg yolks helps lower your cholesterol if you have that problem.

I found this tonight: nutritionfacts.org/video/fo...

It might not be definitive evidence to some but this combined with the forks over knives video I saw on Netflix, and I'm going to see if I can ditch diary and most animal fats. Maybe eat wild salmon and sardines a couple times a week is ok.
