During/after docetaxel, have any of you experienced painful nails along with the change in color? Pictures attached. If so, what did you do for it?

Going through 6 infusions of docetaxel was a nightmare for me. I had ER emergency trips and a week stay in a hospital. I almost lost my left index finger because of an infection. I Lost toe nails. It's been almost a year and a half since my last infusion and my nails are just starting to look normal. Anyone who says chemo was a breeze are nuts!

What sent you to ER?

The docetaxel infusions caused an infection in my fingernail that swelled to three times it's size and turned purple with extreme pain. An Orthopedic Surgeon had to cut it open to drain and clean. I also spent a week in the hospital because my WBC count went down to almost 0 with a high fever. I won't get into all of my chemo misery, but it's a past nightmare I wish never to relive. I hope you will get through yours much better than I did. Best of luck to you.

Hi! After docetaxel, a year ago, my husband has been changing all the toenails. Our oncologist told us that the body can take 3 years to eliminate chemotherapy

Went through 9 cycles and fingernails discolored and were awful, but never fell off. Toe nails not so good. Lost some and had some removed when they got liquid under them and started to bubble.

Well, we were to the ER today since the infection seemed to be getting much worse. He also had surgery by an Orthopedic Surgeon. Was a strong possibility that he would need a partial amputation of the finger, but the good surgeon was able to keep the finger intact. My husband is spending the night in the hospital tonight. Chemo sucks!! Cancer sucks! Working on our QOL!!

I have issues with my finger nails. Curiosly the nails growed with a layer of white colour and I had 6 of thoses layers, I supposed each one of every shot of docetaxel that I had. But the nails growed and now they are healthy and with nice colour.

When on Docetaxel my finger nail became infected one after the other. My toenail were not invoked but prior they were ugly and mouldy- now two years on all nails OK. Should have been advised to scrub and bathe in salty warm water at the start.

Now on cabazetaxel, after a disappointing response to xtandi and the lutetium hoping for a better deal. Fatigue is slowing me Dow. Need to cart on the golf course. (Platelets are down too). PSA 1000+.

I hope you have a good response to Lutetium. Keeps us informed. Good luck.

Finger nails were warped and had bands like the rings in a tree trunk for when chemo was done every three weeks. They are now normal. Lost both big toe nails. They were very ugly, at first thought it might be toe nail fungus. They have pretty much grown back now. Wore opened toe sandals for quite a while. Was concerned about redness, but minor compared to your picture. Good luck.

I just finished leaving a voicemail on my ex-wife's phone to make sure she asks her doctor for a case of Docetaxel.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
