Firmagon in, Docetaxel in 28 days.

Just a follow up from my last post. Thank you again for the support and for all the great info, and humor.

I was asked by my Oncologist, if I would prefer Docetaxel or Zytega to begin my chemo treatment along with the Firmagon shot.

I chose Docetaxel to begin my chemo in 28 days, which will be the day of my 2nd Firmagon shot earlier that morning.

There is a little soreness from the shot, but that is it.

FYI, I was just reviewing the Prostate Cancer Foundations 2019 Patient Guide. Per that reference Zytega is considered 2nd level ADT, not Chemo.

From what I’ve read, given a choice, I would prefer Zytegath to Docetaxel because my impression is less chance of unpleasant side effects. I’m only chiming in here cause I’ll probably be facing these choices eventually.

There has been a lot of posting here about Docetaxel treatment. (You can find some of it by using the Search box at the upper right, with the search restricted to Advanced Prostate Cancer.) Here's one of the more comprehensive Posts from about 8 months ago.

I'm sure others can share their experiences and Hints & Tips.

Greenhorizons, how is treatment going?

My husband is newly diagnosed with tons of mets so we're thinking about docetaxel rather than Zytiga. He has chronic hypokalemia too, so that skews things for us.

Wondering how your experience has been.

Hi,

I will start Docetaxel this coming Monday on the 6th. I get m,y second shot of Firmagon that morning. So far on the Firmagon ADT, I have felt a few mild side effects, but nothing too bad. I am a regular gym goer so that has helped me tremendously. I am afraid of the chemo, but from what my wife and I have researched, it seems that at my stage, Docetaxel can be most effective.

I hope this is the best course of action for me and your husband.

Sorry for the late response,

Best,

Alex

Not late at all - - appreciate the input. Good luck and I look forward to hearing how it is going. I've read docetaxel is relatively low in side effects compared to many others, so hoping that proves true.
