Thanks for the post and remembering!

Yesterday I went to the Twins home opener with 2 lifelong buddies and after the game we went to a downtown restaurant/bar for some food. We had a table full of appetizers and beverages and the waitress came to the table and said everything we had ordered to that point had been paid for. She wouldn't disclose who but about 15 minutes later a guy who had been sitting at the bar came up and said, "Thank you for your service". I was wearing a Vietnam Veterans hat and was totally amazed by his act of kindness. I was overwhelmed by his sincerity and asked him if he knew that today was National Vietnam Veterans day. He thanked me for telling him and said he was going to call his father immediately. A real touching moment.

In Australia we had a “birthday lottery”, whereby if you were a certain age and your birthday was drawn out of the lotto draw you had to go to Nam. My dads birthday was never drawn thank god.

Three tours, 356 combat missions in the F-4 Phantom. I was proud of what I was doing then and I'm proud of it now. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Though whether they'd want a 76 year old, even if he is a tough old buzzard, is another story!

Thank you for the posting. We had a gathering here in Arkansas (several throughout the state.) Many of us deal with the wounds of the time and wounds that show up later from Agent Orange exposure. Coming together from time to time restores the survivor instinct which we can share with others who are afflicted. Peace and blessings to us all.
