Pet scan

Husband has Gleason 10, doc says he needs pet scan and ct scan to see if it spread anywhere else. His mri shows on anterior tumor it’s encapsulated and is not out of prostate . How important is this now , and how often do they have to have this done, ? I suspect there will be many more scans in the future .... The contrast agents used can’t be good as it accumulates in your body. Any thoughts about this ? I heard dotarem is a better contrast agent to use as it leaves less metals in your body. Thoughts ?

Sorry to hear your in the same boat , are you in Ireland ? My son is moving there to study for 3 years and says he does not think he will wan to come back . I was thinking of relocating there for my treatment all my extended family still lives there (I am originally from Cork) ,as I am just starting this journey . Was wondering if the health care system is any good for prostate cancer care I read that they don’t have proton beam , not sure though I am a candidate but I have read good things about it

Rmurchu, please do not get overly concerned about the dyes, contrast agents and radiation. Your husband needs best treatment possible, and he needs it now. I am a stage III A/B lung cancer surviver now undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. I have had many more CT, PET, MRI and Bone scans than I can count, and on all parts of my body. I also have have had 2 years chemotherapy , maximum radiation to both the lungs and prostate , and now going through hormone tratment with Firmagon. Point is that your husband needs best treatment , and in my humble opinion I would do all the requisite tests in order to ensure he gets that treatment. All Best Regards, judg69

It is very important to rule out distant metastases with a GS 10. The indicators are the last thing you should be worried about, but I understand how the mind dwells on details in situations like this. If the cancer has not spread to distant places, the therapy with the best record of success is brachy boost therapy.

Do all these pet scans require you to have a psa to show cancer the Drugs I take have driven mine down below .04. Not asking about insurance paying for them. I’m just wondering about finding cancer if it is anywhere.

Not likely to find anything with PSA that low.
