Changing MO for convenience?

Should I change MO for convenience? I currently see Dr. Evan Yu at Seattle Cancer Care Center. I am happy with my care. We drive 188 miles to SCCA, often involving having to spend a night or two for chemo and other appointments due to the 4 hour drive to and from the center.

There is a high likelihood that we will be moving soon and will be much closer to OHSU Knight Cancer center which is highly regarded as well. This is 100 miles closer to the new home involving only an 88 mile drive. Additionally, if I ever needed more chemo it is given at an adjunct hospital that partners with OHSU and is located 20 minutes away.

Is it worth changing where I get my care if I am happy at SCCA. It would be more convenient but I am a little hesitant to change when satisfied with my current care.

I suppose it is also possible to have Dr. YU continue as my primary and see someone he recommends at OHSU for most treatments.

Any input appreciated....recognizing this is a little indulgent since it is simply a question about convenience.

You can get infusions done locally. Dr Yu is very good - how often would you see him if you got infusions and diagnostic tests done locally. Maybe you could teleconference your meetings?

Tough decision. Allen has given excellent advice. Me? I go where my guy goes. I have been with him since 2004.

You could explain that you are moving and perhaps he will recommend and consult with the new guy with you only seeing Dr Yu 3-4 times a year.

I live in Orlando and went to a local hospital for treatments. My friend wanted "proton" radiation and drove to Miami (200 miles) for nine years. I had Lupron and radiation for 6 1/2 years. We both are cancer free at this time. I believe that driving long distances only adds to the cost in time and hotels. I am sure you can contact the Seattle cancer doctor by e-mail or phone if you have questions and find a local cancer doctor who can give you shots. Always remember to keep asking questions and just keep truckin'.

Changing to a medical facility that is closer takes our a lot of stress which is beneficial to cancer treatment and you in general. I moved 30 miles and changed doctors and medical facilities for the convenience. Travel can be very stressful, not mention time consuming.

You might get a referral to somebody like Tomasz M. Beer at OHSU for a second opinion, and explore what else / who else they have to offer while you are there.
