We are moving to Ocala, FL and really want to be as close as possible to our home and still not give up a leading center and Dr.--fine line I know. I can't drive more than about 30-40 mins. and as hubby's cancer progresses, he may not be able to drive there. I have come up with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, which has almost 100 locations in Florida--2 are actually in Ocala! One of the Ocala location has 6 MO's, but I haven't found out WHAT type of cancer each Dr. specializes in. Has anyone heard of or know anything about Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute? Any really good MO's you may know of would be a great blessing also! Thanks in advance to all the wonderful people here!!

You should be able to search reach doctor and find out what type of cancer they specialize in .

I've tried, they either list many different types or just lists Medical Oncology and/or Hematology. Maybe I don't know where to search for their actual speciality. Any help how to/where to search would be great!

I believe I gor a second opinion from Florida Cancer Specialists in Daytona (among 4 or 5 opinions). I stayed with my former oncologist.

I have a doctor in Brandon with the Florida Cancer specialists and I’m very pleased. He has been my MO for more than two years. They are highly respected in the state.

Does he specialize in Prostate cancer?

No, he is a hematologist oncologist and specializes in all cancers that affect the blood.I have found him very knowledgeable on prostate cancer and the various treatments. Along with the medical oncologist, I have a radiation oncologist next door at Tampa Bay radiation. He is outstanding. Together they are an impressive team. I have had nine years of treatment for stage four prostate cancer. My PSA is 0.05.

I've been with Florida Cancer Specialists in Sarasota for two years and I find my MO (Dr Elizabeth Guancial) to be excellent. Find an MO that specializes in urinary cancer, preferably focused on prostate.

What does Dr. Guancial specialize in, if you don't mind me asking?

Moffitt in north Tampa one of the top centers in the country, as a patient I would recommend highly. It's about 75 miles from Ocala, nobody that could help you drive?

Not sure, we haven't actually moved yet... but we will be new there, no friends or relatives.

Plus dont forget Mayo in Jacksonville. Is close to Ocala. Dr Paul Paul R Young is a Genurinary Surgeon, but call his office for an MO that specializes in PCa

As one stated, there is Mayo in Jacksonville. We live in Ocala and currently main doc is at Mayo in Rochester MN, ( Kwon). We were thinking of changing to Jacksonville, but since, right now anyway, is only a yearly visit decided to stay with him. ( has yearly pet scan, MRI, lab, etc) He sees a local urologist, here, every 4 mo for PSA and review. I’m sure at some point, will be switching.

We live in Vero Beach and are using FL Cancer Specialists for CLL that resulted from RT for PCa. If you can find an MO that you like and trust, the very best thing about FL Cancer Specialists is that it has its own pharmacy. When the MD prescribes meds, RxToGo will work with the patient's insurance to obtain meds at the very lowest cost with the patient doing almost none of the work. In my husband's case, he pays nothing for an expensive BTK-inhibitor to treat his CLL. As Spyder54 mentioned above, Dr. Carlos Alemany (AdventHealth) in Orlando is an excellent MO. My husband was his patient. A specialist with FL Cancer Specialists that you could consider if Sarasota is doable is Dr. Judy S. Wang. There's also Dr. Mark S. Robbins, FCS in Sun City. Honestly, the four MOs in the Vero Beach office of FCS are all top notch.
