Contemplating taking a one hour long flight at Christmas.
Just wondering what the DVT risk is for someone with metastatic PCa who is on ADT.
Any thoughts?

If it makes you feel any better I flew from Rochester, MN to Syracuse NY only 3 days after an open prostatectomy and extended lymphadenectomy removing 42 nodes. Plane was delayed 4 hours because of ice build up and also had a 3 hour layover in Chicago....thankfully I had some pretty heavy meds but I made it home with no complications.
The risk for unwanted coagulation is always higher with cancer. A one hour flight should not normally be a problem - you probably sit longer in front of a computer or TV every day.
I have a number of posts on the topic, but, to summarize:
- periodically, get a D-dimer test. If it zero (or nearly so), you have no occult clot. If high, it may not be due to a clot, but safer to assume so.
- consider using nattokinase to dissolve unwanted fibrin (clot) buildup. D-dimer will initially increase (it is a measure of fibrin breakdown elements). However, it should ultimately get very close to zero. Use the D-dimer test to monitor the effectiveness of the nattokinase dose. (I'm not a doc, etc, so do some research. I had a double DVT some years ago & successfully switched fromWarfarin to nattokinanase, & I remain on a prophylactic dose.)

I learned that the blood clot risk is high if you're being treated with ChemoTherpy. I'm on blood thinners because earlier this year I had a pulmonary embolism. My oncologist told me that half of his chemo patients are on blood thinners because of the risk. Not sure what the DVT risk is while on ADT. I'd ask your doctor.
Did a 7 hour flight Manchester UK to Dubai in March. No problems whatsoever. Been on ADT for 7 years.
I took round trip flights from Houston to Moscow and again from Houston to London. I got up and walked around and stood. On a couple of flights, the flight attendant told me to go to my seat, my reply was that my legs hurt and I was worried about DVT. She left me alone.

One hour is a niece of cake. Get up from your seat a couple of times during the flight and walk around a bit. (If you want, chase some of the nice looking attendants up and down the aisles, but no dancing).
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

If you aren't on a prescription blood thinner just take an aspirin, which is the poor man's blood thinner.
