PSMA Prep results

Thanks to all for your replies to my question about prep for my PSMA scan on Friday (clinical trial at University of Pennsylvania). If you review them, you'll probably also be surprised at the considerable variance in the instructions/experiences reported. They range from no instructions in several instances (as in my case) to limitations on both exercise and food/water beforehand. I suspect that this variance may be attributable to differences in the particular radioisotopes/carrier compounds as well as the established SOPs of the respective providers.

I think I'll follow the median prep instructions. :)

What are the criteria for the CT you’re going on?

I’m scheduled to go to UCSF for PSMA ga68 ct pet but they require Psa of 2.1 since I’ve had prior RT and I’m at 1.7 and rising.

Bob...check out clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

I don't recall a stated minimum PSA requirement but they did want at least two PSA results, histological evidence of PCa and a prior scan. My Axumin scan results (which were indeterminate) were sufficient.

How long did you have to wait to get an appointment and how much did it cost?

Bob...This is a sponsored clinical trial, so there is no cost. In fact, I'll be getting paid a modest amount for my time. :) I only had to wait until my Axumin scan was completed to meet the enrollment criteria and to be scheduled for the scan.

HOWEVER -- there is a major hitch which I didn't realize until reading the detailed informed consent agreement: because this is an investigational study and sufficient data are not yet available, patients are not permitted access to the results (by the NCI, I assume). At first, that was a deal breaker for me, but I've since learned that both my MO and RO will be able to get the results to help decide my next steps since they are both Penn Faculty members. Otherwise, I wouldn't have agreed to be a guinea pig. [Perhaps I should also mention that I've been an advisor to the sponsoring company for several years and have worked for more than a decade with the genius research professor who started the company and developed the radio-tracer being investigated.]

Yes I called them. This is a phase I trial . They said not to be used for clinical application i.e. treatment. So I’m headed to UCSF for their phase III trial.

Bob..

Bob I'm scheduled for UCSF on Friday (Oct 12th). I was accepted at 1.35 and at 1.70 now.

I'm in their clinical trial. Still will pay .

Does your insurance cover part of this? Mine at this point is not. I was told not to pay when I'm there. They resubmit after the scan. Maximum liability for me is $3200.
