My husband has been on Zytiga for 4 years with great results but now failing and psa up to 6.5. His oncologist suggests switching to Xtandi. Has anyone done that? Results? side effects?

Xtandi after Zytiga?
There is some new evidence that switching to dexamethasone from prednisone may extend the effectiveness of Zytiga. Considering the long ride he had with Zytiga, it may not add much, but may be worth a try anyway. Here's a study to discuss with your oncologist:

As for switching to Xtandi, about a third of patients have some PSA response, although it's not clear that it extends survival. Also, worth trying, I think.
65. thats nothing to worry about. all meds one takes well fail at some time. my psa last month was 28 now its 60 and i know why. 5 months without zytiga but doing more just got to let my body work on the new treatments. u know the average male has a 0-4.0 psa hes got nothing to worry about. i've been fighting this for 10years
Hi judymin,
Been battling for 6 years (please see bio).
Got an 18 month run on Zytiga, then high dose Ketoconozole, and finally 12 months on Xtandi.
After recent chemo, did a rechallenge with Xtandi and got another 7-8 months.
Side effects minimal on Xtandi, as I take it in the evening. Like Zytiga, can be very expensive if not covered by your drug plan.
Best wishes. Never Give In.

Four year on Zytiga is great. Your husband should do equally well with Xtandi. I was on Zytiga for 3 1/2 year and now on Xtanti going on 3 years. The only problem I have with Xtandi is gas. I'm chewing gas-X tablets like there is no tomorrow.
I switched to Xtandi after being on Zytiga. It didn't work at all and the side effects were much worse. But with that said, everyone is different so it may work for your husband.
Same a sdlestercarlson. Switched to Xandi after 18 mos on Zytiga. Didn’t help and side effects were nasty. Hated to throw away half a month supply given how expensive it was.
