Dr Gary Onik and Targeted Cryoablation-does it work?

HopingForTheBest1 profile image

According to garyonik.com -

"Dr. Onik has published an article for all prostate cancer patient's describing the long term results of his work in Prostate Focal Therapy using Targeted Cryoablation - and the results could change the way men think about treating their Prostate Cancer.

The implications of Targeted Cryoablation for high-risk and moderate-risk prostate cancer cases are extremely compelling because they demonstrate that the long term Biochemical Disease Free Survival rates for these groups of men are twice (2x) the published rate of other therapies, with far lower quality of life impacts."

Has anyone had any experience with Dr Onik and/or targeted cryoablation?

It is experimental with no long-term data to support it. There are many reasons why it might not be a good therapy (especially in high risk men!), which are discussed here:

I saw Dr Onik twice in 2016 for cryo-immunotherapy. He called me a non-responder as I had no appreciable benefits. There was another guy there at the same time who had several pelvic bone mets, who had a complete remission. I guess I wasn't one of the lucky ones.

I saw Dr Onik in 2017 for recurrence after Proton radiation. He performed IRE and Cryo however it did not work for me.
