I had 5 radiation sessions to treat mets in my spine, the last treatment was 8/5.About two weeks after treatment I developed an hellacious sore throat that shows no signs of letting up, it is now 3 weeks since the last treatment and I still have pain trying to swallow, even just water. I also had my first Chemo treatment a week ago and wondered if that might have exacerbated the problem. The Doctor prescribed something called Larrys solution that numbs thing a little but is of little relief. Anybody have any tips or treatments to help soothe and heal my raw throat. I cannot take aspirin or pain relievers due to the chemo treatment as they want to watch my temperature carefully.

My RO uses two things: (i) carafate 1gm/10ml suspension (gets swallowed) and (ii) "magic mouthwash"--lidocaine+diphen+maalox 1:1:1 (swished and spit out).
Had sore throat which got worse as chemo progressed. 8 cycles. Really suspicious of the Dexamethasone, day before and day of. (Also gave me 3 days insomnia). Night time snack of dill pickle spears helped me (might help your stomache also), Pepperoncini mild gave a temporary relief but later on in chemo could not handle pepperoncini any longer. Also saltine crackers (not to be gross but lick the salt off and then eat the cracker). I still have crackers by my bedside and finished chemo a year ago. Now I often have a chunk of cheese with my crackers, but almost everyone here will say that is deadly and will kill you so I do not advise you to do as I do. Had bbq hot dogs one day, bbq rib eye next day, Thai steak salad next 2 days and am bbqing rib eye again tonite, so having a long labor day holiday. If in my 40's or 50's might go the supplement/diet way but am 68 years so doing it my way. Did quit smoking 10 days ago but can't remember why. Damned Lupron. So pickles and crackers helped.
My partner just went through the same problem, couldn't eat or drink due to severe throat pains from radiation. He tried the magic mouthwash but that didn't help as much as the home made gargle solution of: 1tsp salt, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 quart of water and gargle as often as needed (lots to start). He is now feeling better after just over 2 weeks and is able to eat soups and stews.
