I was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten years ago. I had laproscopic prostectomy. I get my physical along with bloodwork done every year. After ten years of a 0 PSA level, the last one showed it rising. It went up to 23, after taking bicalutamide it's been going down. Down to 14 as of last test. For the past couple weeks I've been on Zytiga/Prednisone. I hate taking pills. I hate how they're making me feel. My doctor says there's no cure. So yeah...I'm scared. I don't like that my doctor is taking the palliative treatment approach. I want him to take the curative approach. I have so many questions. Is it true....is there no cure? Is there no hope? I'm 58 years old, I still work. My dreams of enjoying my retirement are all but disappeared. I have to continue working to keep my medical benefits active. I hate this.....

Are you also having an ADT injection such as Lupron or a similar drug?

Yes, I had my first Lupron injection a mont ago. I see the oncologist this week and he will decide if I need them every month or every 3 months. It depends on the reaction to the first one.

The oncologist prescribed a 3 month injection this time due to my lack of significant side affects to the one month injection.

Do you have clear scans?

My CT scan showed cancer in my right femur and 12-15 lymph nodes (before treatment).

Zytega prednisone along with ADT has been proven to improve survival by about 40% so gotta stay on it. I added chemo since chemo with adt also proven to extend life. No proof all three are better than two but sure seems logical. And my MO thinks so. Second opinion at ucla thinks maybe but no proof. Also adding zometa and Celebrex which was shown to extend survival 22%. Hit it hard and early with everything I say. Key is to workout hard with weight training at least 3 days a week and you will tolerate it all much better. Good luck

I began lifting weights 3 days a week on dr suggestion. One thing that does concern me is that he said diet has no affect and he didn’t recommend anything. Sounds like a red flag to me...hmmmm.

My MO says the same thing. No clinical proof he says that any foods or supplements have a major impact although while eggs seem to have a negative impact for some reason I read. Read thru this site. Lots of back and forth on that subject with Manu opinions.

For diet for me, I don't eat egg yolks, no skin of chickens, no dairy, and no processed meat. I eat red meat once a week. I eat skinless chicken breast, and fish and other seafood. Also, I eat egg whites. There are other restrictions, but that is for other diseases I have. Do diet restrictions help me--who knows?

Ditto for me. Sounds like my food plan. I generally don't eat any chicken, but my wife cooks some delicious skinless chicken thighs for herself every now and then and I can't resist. For red meat occasionally I try for all natural - bison or venison if available.

I miss BBQ ribs and the meat lovers cheesy pizza, but feel good.

I remember in my younger days getting venison in the forest, but today I can't drag a 200 lb. buck on a sled to the main road. It is hard to find that meat in a butcher's shop.

is there no cure? YES! You're 58 and you'll retire at age 62 and die of old age at 88. When retired your wife will complain that "she married you for better or worse, but not for lunch". Take a deep breath, live your life and keep stepping on dose cooties...

Good Luck and Good Health.

For my update; I went in for my bloodwork and second Lupron injection. My last PSA was 14.4, this time it's 0.4 I guess this is where the waiting game begins until it begins to climb again. I go in for radiation to my femur bone to try to kill them there. Then we will address the lymph nodes.
