My father is currently on round 9 of docetaxel and his psa went from being in high hundreds to 7.5. My mom is already celebrating. I'm just worried this may not mean much. On round 3 of docetaxel my father had a scan of back and his psa has already dropped. Well the scan showed cancer had spread even though psa went down. The dr said well hopefully the additional rounds of chemo will stop the spread. So I guess my question is should I still be concerned?

We are always concerned, but lower PSA shows treatment is working. Spread was probably already there and just didn't show up in early scan (to small but growing)..mine was that way. After 9 chemo. and xtandi all soft mets were undetectable and bone mets reduced and less active. Combined side effects toxicity became to much and terminated chemo. Later had to cut Xtandi dose to survivable dose. 160 was to toxic for my body to handle.
Celebrate like crazy, as he is having a great response! My PSA dropped from 10.8 to .4 after 6 cycles of Docetaxel/Carboplatin. Please see bio for complete treatment history.
Has he iced his feet and hands during infusions? I did to minimize chance of peripheral neuropathy, also took daily oral 100mg B6 per Med Onc for same reason.
Google Mayo Clinic and Wisconsin American ginseng to see their trial to minimize chemo fatigue.
Thank you. We will celebrate. I guess it's just like everybody says a rollercoaster ride with so many ups and downs. Hes been on this ride for 10 years now. He has 1 more cycle for now. They want to give him a break chemo has been pretty rough on him. I will have him try the ice because he is suffering bad from neuropathy. Thanks
Anytime Chuck has a good PSA test, we celebrate. It has been a long journey for us, with lots of ups and downs and we have learned to take the positives whenever we get them. It is good news his PSA is going down.
Yay! Great news with the significant drop in PSA and I hope that it gets lower and stays that way for a long time. It's a roller coaster ride, so strap in and carpe diem
Btw, I was PSA @ 840 in 01/2015 and got down to 0.7 after 15 Taxotere sessions and ADT(Lupron and Casodex). Stage IV with mets to L ureter lymph node. Recent scans show no bone or lymph mets
Of course you worry, you love him. The treatments buy time. Help make the time count as good times. You are making precious memories to combat the bad times and the loneliness.
We had the same experience. PSA went down from 20 to 11 and then rose to 16. They stopped Docetaxel and the cancer had spread. Now on Cabazitaxel. Next PSA test this coming week.
