I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the beginning of July 2018 with a Gleason score of 5+4 and a PSA of 4.7 . I guess that’s a low PSA score with that high of a Gleason . Not sure what that means. I recently had a bone scan and a CT scan . Fortunately the CT scan showed “no metastases .” Unfortunately the bone scan showed “intense activity“ in one spot and “moderate activity“ in two others.
I’m wondering if anybody has any experience with doctors and hospitals in the Raleigh/Durham area? I have heard that Duke university hospital has a good prostate cancer program.
I will be in Central Florida starting in October and would love any information about hospitals, doctors and treatment centers in that area as well !
I would greatly appreciate any input/wisdom !
Scared and hopeful, ROBERT

Welcome to our group Robert, I live in Orlando, FL. I like the Florida Hospital Cancer Group and I see Dr. William Grow. He is great and a hematologist as well. He gives many options and lets you choose your therapy with understanding and kindness. I have been on Lupron injection for 6 and 1/2 years, but I am currently on no therapy. We decided to stop therapy and watch to see if my PSA goes up. Also, I had 42 radiations in 2004 and 30 more in 2011. My PSA has been 0.00 for 6 and 1/2 years now. I had no metastases in 2004, but went to stage 4 (Metastatic) in 2011. I am 73 years old now and I am moving into a rest home. I still can get around, but if I wait they may not take me. Keep following the HealthUnlocked site for some good info and keep truckin'.
Thanks so much Jim… I greatly appreciate the information on Florida Hospital and Dr. Grow! I’m sure it’s taken a great deal of courage to get through all that you’ve gone through but you sound very encouraged ! You “keep on trucking“ yourself my friend 😄
I have been in this battle for almost six years (please see bio for complete treatment history).
For 4+ years I was treated by Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers until his recent retirement.
He used to send patients to the Dattoli Cancer Center in Sarasota for radiation, but at the end they had a falling out, even though Dattoli had treated Snuffy.
