How would you know if your prostate cancer was PSMA positive?

PSMA scan offered here in the US. Ga-68 PSMA. Not usually covered by insurance. I believe UCLA and a few other places charge 2300$-2800$. If you find a clinical trial, it is done with no charge to see if you can qualify. If PSMA positive then you have a chance to receive the Lu-177.

Here are the trials open in the US that are testing results of treatment against standard care.

GU Research Network/ Urology Cancer Center

Recruiting

Omaha, Nebraska, United States, 68130

Contact: Tony Romero 402-690-3716 tromero@gucancer.com

Principal Investigator: Luke Nordquist, MD

United States, Texas

Excel Diagnostics & Nuclear Oncology Center

Recruiting

Houston, Texas, United States, 77042

Contact: Susan Cork 713-341-3202 scork@exceldiagnostics.com

Principal Investigator: Ebrahim Delpassand, MD

We are on our way today to Nebraska to see if my father will qualify..

best of luck.

I will post details of trial etc. tomorrow.

Just praying my father gets in!

The PSMA scan that my father will do is a Ga-68-PSMA PET/CT. I believe it was offered at UCLA, you can pay out of pocket for scan unless there is a way to get insurance to cover.

On one of sites you provided it said:

"Some of the statements FDA took issue with include:

"New imaging test accurately detects prostate-cancer cells throughout the body"

"At UCLA, with the availability of PSMA-PET imaging patients now have a new option of detecting prostate cancer cells anywhere in the body more accurately than traditional methods"

"There are no common side effects or significant risks"

As a result of these statements, FDA says the imaging test is misbranded and UCLA should immediately cease violating the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act by discontinuing the use of any violative statements and materials.

If a Ga 68 PSMA PET/CT shows metastasis, you know the cancer is PSMA positive. The Ga68 PSMA is very sensitive.

Two ways:

(1) if they can biopsy a metastasis, they can stain for it

(2) A PSMA PET scan can pick it up

I went to London to do my PSMA scan. Cost about $3400. You just need a referral, and you can make the appt directly with them. I hear in Australia is a fraction of he cost.
