Insomnia on Lupron ????

Hi ,

I’m getting a great “undetectable” PSA response on Lupron now going on 7 months . However , sleeping through the night is also undetectable !!!

Seems like the lupron wakes me up every night around 2 to 3 am and it lasts for 30 minutes to over 2 hours . Very frustrating .

Anything working for anyone to stay asleep ? I need to get up at 530 am and start a long day of work . I’m nowhere near retirement or Medicaid and this won’t change soon . Therefore , the lost sleep is not made up by sleeping late or napping .

Ugh ..... frustrating !

More Coffee please !!!

Suggestions ?

I use a dream machine which produces ocean surf sounds. Seems to relax and help me go back to sleep. I usually wake up every hour or two all night long, but can go back to sleep after a hot flash! LOL

Hi Gd, when i first started Lupron i didnt sleep for 3 days straight. My uro vave me ambian it dose work, but dont want to do it for to long. These days i take seriquil (probably spelled wrong) it works good. Melatonin might also work for you if you want to go the natural route. Not sleeping is horrible i still deal with it after 7 years.

Good Luck!

I am also using Lupron, ad well as Xtandi, and have very irregular sleep some nights. I've found 2 things that help: Melatonin and exercise. I seem to respond very well to Jamieson 10mg Melatonin. Slept through the night the 1st time I used it. I also try to walk for 45-60 min most days. The activity and fresh air certainly make me tired during the evening. I feel your pain, brother. Good luck with a solution.

You don't hear that much about insomnia on Lupron but it really bothered me during the 26 months I spent on Lupron. My medical oncologist prescribed a sustained release of Ambien which at least kept me asleep until maybe 3:00 am. Also I agree with JeffLikesBikes that melatonin and exercise is a good approach.

Remember there are Slow Release versions of Melatonin- if the regular one does not work.. . Sometimes those help.

Another supplement that we use for sleeplessness is L-theanine - I like the 200mg ones. It is supposed to be from green tea. It puts you in a meditative state. I find it is good for when I wake up at 1am and cannot go back to sleep.. it is not as heavy as melatonin. Most Walgreens and drug stores sell melatonin.. I buy L-theanine from Amazon.

I accidentally found out that Sweet Basil makes you sleepy... I took I it during in the mornings as a wellness supplement and could not understand why I was so tired all week. For me it was too strong.. But it is another option. I think it has cancer fighting properties too.

One of my older kids loves Alteril - it is a combination of Melatonin, L-tryptophane, GABA and 1 other item. You can buy this from most stores.. Smith's, Walgreens, etc - and of course Amazon.

Don't drink evening Alcohol.. even a beer in the evening... it can interfere with nighttime sleep.

I will report back if any of the pemf systems work on sleep.

I hope this helps. Have a good rest.

My wife was given hydroxypam antihistamine for help winding down for sleep. Its like a cruder benadryl, non habit forming. Very effective for her.

I concur on the melatonin suggestions. I've alternated between sominex (OTC) and a prescription for lorazepam, a sedative. There are concerns about developing a dependence, but you need to sleep. If you have access to medical marijuana I've heard that an indica strain can promote sleep as well as address pain issues. These are often available in edible form, like gummy bears, so you avoid the negatives of smoking. In the state where I live a prostate cancer diagnosis qualifies you for a medical marijuana card. Good luck sleeping. I am retired now and can sleep late or take naps. I hated it when I had trouble sleeping and had to get up early to go to work.

My husband had insomnia after his Lupron injection. I suggested a few drops of lavender oil on his pillow. It's helped him.
