I'd just like to say that I have been very pleased to see Tall Allen's recent posts/replies here in the HealhUnlocked Advanced Prostate Cancer forum. He is such a great resource and dedicated compiler of information and research for patient-oriented prostate cancer information. Over the past couple of years I've seen his many, many posts in support of men and caregivers dealing in particular with more initial stages of prostate cancer over on the HealingWell Prostate Cancer forum. His comprehensive blog Prostate Cancer News, Reviews, and Views is also a terrific compendium of valuable information.

The world of Advanced Prostate Cancer is no less daunting, even if our total numbers among all those diagnosed with prostate cancer are smaller.

Again, welcome Tall Allen. I'm so glad to see you here among us "advanced" guys, recently. "Three Hot Flashes for Tall Allen! Hot Flash! Hot Flash! Hot Flash!" Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Thanks for the welcome, Charles. I'm a little hesitant about taking on another forum because my new novel needs work, But with such a warm welcome, it's hard to stay away. [31 words :-)]

I would like to update on my Advanced Prostate Cancer and

thanks for advice to join Advance Prostate Cancer group.

I do not know where would be the best place to post this experience-- it will be few sentences -smile !

So here is my story and warning advice on Nilutamide and Bicalutamide:

My Oncologist switched me from Bicalutamide to Nilutamide and after about two and half month of taking it, Nilutamide side effect caused me Pneumonitis.

It was diagnosed, unfortunately, as bacterial ,non specific Pneumonia

and I almost dyed. I was loaded with many antibiotics,was on Oxygen

for 2 months,was given Corticosteroids and Nilutamide was withdrawn. Than finally I was getting better after loosing 20 Kg (about 44 pounds ) in 2 months.

I am Chemist,

so later I was researching what was going on. One of Nilutamide rare side effects, in about 2-4 % of patients may cause "Interstitial Pneumonitis",

pneumonia like condition. It is described in the medical literature,but you have to specifically look for it.

None of my attending physicians was aware of it !

Both Bicalutamide and Nilutamide affect liver functions, even Bicalutamide was reported that it may rarely cause Pneumonitis :

I am no longer taking Nilutamide or Bicalutamide ,have appointments with specialists to see what will be the alternative.

"When our inherited germline DNA repair genes are faulty, cancers may appear at any time and grow unchecked. They also often results in radio-toxicity because healthy cells can't fix the X-ray damage to their DNA and die off en masse. When tumor DNA repair is faulty, as it often is, the cells become immortal, DNA errors proliferate and lead to such phenomena as EMT (cells able to exist outside of the prostate and migrate easily), castration resistance, and drug resistance."

Sorry- I just saw this old question. Apoptosis (cell suicide) is what cells are supposed to do when errors proliferate that cannot be repaired. Cells that have lost the ability to self-destruct are immortal - cancerous.
