Sinusitis: Is it that hard to Dx?

It started with severe headaches a few years ago. My doc with her infinite wisdom dx'd it as tension headaches, due to depression from the PCa. So, she put me on Cymbalta, and they somewhat subsided, but always returned in the worst way.

Fast forward: An oral surgeon visit prompted a script for Amoxicyllin. He put me on it a week prior to pulling the teeth. You can not imagine the _______, coming out of my head. I don't want to go near trying to gross you out, but it was really bad. I'm finding ANOTHER doctor, again.

Is it just me having these problems with misdiagnosed problems? Every which way I turn it seems I get screwed.

I had Sinusitis, (sinus infection). They put a tiny camera up my nose and said "you have a sinus infection". They gave me some drugs, went back a month later, did the camera thing again and they said "Eureka, your cured". Funny thing is they were right. Medicare covered the whole shebang.

Of course what do I know?

More than me, this is good info. I should have included that my doc insisted I use a neti-pot. My sinus' laughed at it. I tried it several times, and it did diddly. As I type this, I can feel air hitting places it hasn't been in a while. It's a good hurt.

I have had sinus trouble my whole life. No one has given me any relief. I have my own theories why I have this. I have used netti pots, which do help but not a cure. I have been to Ear - Nose - Throat doctors with the little cameras up my nose. "You have a sinus infection, take these," well they don't help. I have been through allergy testing and all the allergy shots and meds. The allergy docs say that I am allergic to everything. Well with all your meds and shots, I have no relief.

My theory? I did the DNA test with Ancestry.com, then got my raw data and ran it through another website to get the DNA mutations report. I have the MTHFR gene defect. So I don't methylate very well. I have also read that some people have this condition called "histamine intolerance." I mentioned that to my doctors and got that odd look from them. I do believe that I have some minor allergies (food and environmental), but I have an overload of histamine that my body can't process very well because I am not methylating and clearing out the histamine and it is affecting my sinuses.

I have a doctor that I will be seeing her early next year. She practices functional medicine and wants to go over my DNA report with me. She is great and listens, communicates and works with me. Hope to untangle some of these chronic health issues with her.

Good luck going forward, it's been a rough road for me.
