Can anyone tell me the pattern of their 24 hour urinary cycle, and as to how much pain you are dealing with, along with anything other than flowmax as medication?

I'm on average every hour and half to two hours through the day and every half hour to an hour from 12am to 6am.

Had RProstectomy in July. Now with Lupron and Taxatere treatments, sleep is disturbed every two hour to pee at night. Daytime, 3-5hrs. between. Used flowmax before surgery and could sleep through the night.

My husband had a "green light laser" ablation of part of the prostate to help with urinary issues. He was up a couple of times a night and had sensation of not being finished. He still has his prostate because he was diagnosed at Stage IV with distant mets, and his prostate was never super enlarged, just super toxic. Other than the 48-hour Foley, he was very happy he had this procedure done. Not sure if it's an option but worth a chat with a urologist.

I have never heard of this operation and I will study it and talk with my doctors... Thankyou!!!

I think the older version of this is called TURP or 'roto rooter' in the vernacular. I had this 10 years prior to PC diagnosis. It is for BPH (enlarged prostate) that causes urinary problems. Google 'rezum' -- it is newer technology not available everywhere yet.

Wow!! I really like the sound of this treatment. Would anyone know of the type of doctor I should talking to about this? Oncologist or radiologist?

Urologist. This type of treatment is for enlarged prostate that prevents the full emptying of the bladder. It isn't a cure for prostate cancer; just something that should help with the kind of urinary problems you described. I'm not a doctor. Talk to a urologist. You shouldn't have to continue to suffer with this problem.

I had very bad retention issues that culminated with a catheter inserted for 2 months! I thought i was heading toward green light procedure - in fact doc tried to schedule. But after a few rounds of chemo things calmed down in that area, and now i pee 300 ml at a time and only once per night. I was lucky.

Thankyou. I seem to have a lot of retention and pain daily. Most noticeable from 12am to 6am as I use the bathroom on average 10 times in this time frame.

It sounds like some sort of treatment is needed. A urologist would be the person to help decide the best action. Quality of life is important, but beyond that you may be retaining enough to be a medical danger. Good luck!

I believe if I don't do something soon it will become a greater problem. I'm surprised that my oncologist or radiologist have not recommended these procedures. I have had these symptoms for quite a while and they have only mentioned flowmax.

The next step I am facing is to see if either is covered by insurance.
