I take a good daily walk in the park. (Seriously) It improves my mood, gets me out of my anxiety-ridden head, probably helps keep my bones a little stronger, and helps a bit with keeping my weight down. I also sleep with a small, quiet fan in my bedroom, for when I awaken with a hot flash.

P.S. I like your evocative photo. Very artistic. Is it like you feel like a shadow of your former self? Or is it more mysterious, like when I order something at a fast food place, and they ask my name, and I give them a false name, like "Bob", and, even though it's incredibly stupid of me, I get a temporary thrill out of it? Ha. Ha. Ha. (I know, I'm weird sometimes. It's OK, I have incurable Stage IV cancer. Why not have some silly fun?)

Exercise really does help. I get very stiff ... my muscles are like rubber bands. So I also do yoga. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would. But it makes me feel much better ... and it's fun!

Also, lift light weights a few times per week to help stave off the muscle loss.

Hope this is helpful! 😊

I do exercise a lot and, you're right, it helps. But I was wondering about herbal remedies for the hot flashes, and days without any energy

The only relief I have gotten from hot flashes is a prescription for gabapentin. I've tried accupuncture and some herbal remedies provided by my integrative medicine expert, but they did not help. Hopefully others can offer suggestions. But gabapentin does the trick for me. 😊

Gabapentin worked good for the hot flashes ,and the fatigue modifinil along with a daily Resistance exercise . I also changed my diet . How ever Ive been off ADT now two years T is normal and psa currently <0.01 but depression still haunts me.

PC sucks. Being chemically castrated sucks. Getting old sucks. But being alive is pretty nice.

No argument there

I've used soy milk with my morning cereal. My hot flashes were manageable.

Hi

In addition to the exercise I would strongly recommend acupuncture. It helps with cognition, fatigue, and hot flashes. It's as important to me as food. Try it three times and you will see

I have used acupuncture many times in the past. The problem is finding a good practitioner. I'll look into it

I take ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) which has had clin trials at Uni of Maryland. It's on prescription in Germany for diabetes driven peripheral neuropathy and in UK sold in health food shops as non prescription. Have used for 2 months excellent results. Good luck with your treatment.

What's the advantage of taking ALA

Reduces, diminishes and in many cases stops hot flashes and poly neuropathy.

Don't give up on the acupuncture. I travel 1400 miles for the right one and so worth it. My best to you

I live in St Pete Florida and my acupuncturist was in Hurst Tx. Hopefully he's still in business

Nope.

Estradiol patches replaced twice weekly stop hot flashes. Exercise helps with strength bone and muscle loss and helps mood.

My solution to hot flashes is Rx for Venlafaxine. Waaay diminishes what were pretty severe hot flashes, and it's a mood enhancer, so the added benefit is less depression!

I'm 10-years into the battle. Gleason 10, failed surgery, then failed radiation, been on double continuous ADT for nearly 3 years now (Eligard + Bicalutimide). Won't ever go off.

Buy a training bra.

My experience... Although I gained weight on Lupron, I did not particularly have any breast growth during the first 3 years. Since adding Xtandi, however, I have had some very small amount of breast growth, but nothing to any extent that it particularly concerns me. (And nowhere near needing a training bra - Ha. Ha.) I am much more pleased to have seen that added Xtandi has taken my resistant PSA back down from 95 to 1.9, so far, within 7 months of treatment.

Way to go... down to 1.9...

You don't know what you're missing by not having big knockers, looking in the mirror is such a treat... 😊

Good Luck and Good Health.

A Erika,

I found total relief from hot flashes with acupuncture. On about the third treatment it began to work well. Now after 6 treatments I am having no hot flashes unless I eat some chocolate or something high in sugar and then it triggers a hot flash. Also, walking into a hot room overdressed will trigger hot flashes. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and can recommend a good acupuncturist if you live in the area. I am continuing with two treatments a week. Jmhanshaw
