I'm scheduled for AUS surgery in late February. If anyone has advice about making the recovery period comfortable, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

No advice, Yost, but wishing you a speedy recovery. BTW, we are coming to see Cher!
I was pleasantly surprised how quickly everything healed. No more cycling or horse riding I'm afraid but such a relief to get rid of all the paraphernalia. I still leak a bit but usually manage with one pad a day. You may do even better. It takes two or three weeks before you can activate it. Good luck.

Thanks, Bob. Did you have to make any special arrangements for toileting to keep the incision clean during healing?
Thanks!
Using Arnica (from a drug store or health food store) in the small tablets format can REDUCE bleeding, bruising or swelling from surgery. It can be used with anesthesia happily. I did it 5 of the 7 times I had surgery. Really helped. ALSO it is now considered fine to drink water up to 2 hours before surgery. Keeps you from dehydration and is proven with Cochrane.org which is a worldwide organization considered the highest source of evidence-based medicine.

Hi annie. I've been on your site. ty for your continued research and stressing the importance of added natural therapy
I had mine almost a year ago and it has been life changing for me. I had considerable swelling for about three days following surgery. Ice packs will help this a lot. By the time a week went by I was out walking my dog, and other activities. I had my surgery at Arizona Urology Specialists in Scottsdale Arizona. We traveled there from Albuquerque NM and were staying in our motorhome. We stayed there about a month, but after the first week we were doing all the tourist activities and enjoying the warm weather. I went back in late February (six weeks) to have the device activated. That only took about five minutes. When I got back to our motorhome, I tried it out for the first time. I was amazed, I did not leak a drop and have been completely dry ever since. My surgeon told me that he would put in two cuffs if possible, and that there would be no leaking if he could do that. If he was only able to get one cuff in, I would likely need to wear 1 or 2 pads a day. I was wearing about 12 to 16 pads a day. He got two in for me, and I am totally dry. Make sure when you finish urinating that you give the device a few seconds to close, otherwise you might get a couple of drops. Good luck with your surgery, and I think you will be really happy with the outcome.

The surgery and recovery was a breeze compared to the prior year's salvage prostatectomy. I missed a couple weeks of work, but was telecommuting during that time. Getting the AUS was life-restoring. BTW, I'm able to ride a bicycle with a split seat.
Not a man, so the physical stuff I can't help but I e been through over 7 surgeries, so hopefully do mm done can help you to make juice daily, and pile a list on Netflix including dome comedy, set your recovery up as a period of relaxation , some mags, a book, possibly meditation for pain and have things set up close by if you don't have company . I keep an insulated bag of ice packs on my bed so I can switch them out without getting up if it's too painful . spoil yourself rotten and ALLOW yourself to tecover. though I do wish you a speedy recovery, I wish more for full restful recovery because everyone's body is different. don't rush anything after surgery. fish oil motrin and other mess thin the blood and you need to discontinue a few days before and after surgery. go heal my friend ,
