I have stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer and have been treated over the past 19 months. I had never been told or read about eating eggs and how bad they are for prostate cancer patients. I guess it's the choline that cancer loves to eat and metastasize. Is there any current data to prove or disprove this finding? Mark58

Choline from eggs
Mark,
I'll answer this with another in my ongoing series:
Foods/Supplements-Vitamins: Eggs (perhaps later today)
Yes, choline can be an issue, but it would be dangerous to avoid choline. I wouldn't eat a 3 egg omelet every day, but I do eat eggs.

Do not know about eggs. Read that prostate cancer survivors need to stay away from diary and soy products.
T3N1Mx, G 8 (4+4), Da Vinchi April 2016, Hormonal June 2016, external radiation to start August 2016
Why would a PCa survivor stay away from soy, as in soy burgers?
There is evidence on Soy products being good and bad for prostate cancer. For most cancers it is good. Growing evidence has shown that it can promote cancers that are hormonal based, like prostate and breast. The jury is not out, but there is enough evidence for me to stay away fro soy.
I understand your viewpoint. I know, if your a breast cancer survivor, it has to be limited, and some doctors would advise you to totally avoid it. If I had breast cancer I would not eat it; however, since I have PCa, I limit consumption to four soy burgers per week. I understand the possible hormonal implications.
I'm still on the fence about almonds. I love them. But they have choline. I don't eat eggs.
Thanks! Just search: choline, eggs, metastatic prostate cancer. My information was from a Harvard Study. Mark 58
Honestly, this is a new one me, but your question is right on:
Eggs can be problem because of the choline!

Published in 2010-
“ Only 3 prior studies have prospectively examined egg consumption in relation to risk of advanced or fatal prostate cancer. Snowdon and colleagues reported a 60% increased risk of fatal prostate cancer among men eating 3 or more eggs per week compared with less than 1 egg per week. In contrast, there was no difference in prostate cancer death comparing men eating 7 eggs per week (21–38/mo) to 1 or fewer eggs per week in the Lutheran Brotherhood Cohort Study and a 20 g increase in egg intake per day (approximately half an egg) was associated with a 30% reduction in risk of advanced prostate cancer in the Netherlands Cohort Study.
Although the limited data available are inconsistent, our results are similar to those of Snowdon and colleagues and highly suggestive of an association; therefore additional research on egg consumption and risk of lethal prostate cancer is warranted.
AND
From the Sun (UK) without a specific citation to read the study:
“MEN who eat chicken and eggs are more likely to die from prostate cancer,
according to Harvard University researchers.
In a study more than 1,000 men in the early stages of the disease were
followed for several years.
It found that if the men who ate two-and-a-half or more eggs per week had
twice the risk of their cancer progressing to areas such as the bones.
Eating poultry was also found to have a similar effect.”
So, I guess that eggs are now as problematic as meat, etc. Who would have ever known!

Thanks Joel,
This new information to me is very disturbing because I have been eating eggs and chicken regularly, and even since my diagnosis. I had asked my Oncologist if there were any foods or herbs or supplements that I could take and/or avoid and she said no. I would think a suggestion of not eating eggs and chicken would be very good medical advice to any man suffering from prostate cancer. I wonder if that is why the PET choline scan is so useful for lighting up metastatic prostate cancer. It must be the cancer feeds on the choline?

So, we're not supposed to eat chicken, beef or any red meat, or eggs. For meat protein, are we supposed to only eat fish? I know protein is in a variety of beans and many grains, but is it just that and fish?
Sounds right to me.
Here is a great example how we join together and make a difference in each others life. Good for us.
Joel
As I have mentioned before, I am a vegetarian but I do eat fish, eggs and diary. I do not eat any of these things in great quantities, not every day.
I had heard the same thing about eggs, chicken & turkey meat increasing a man's risk of experiencing pca. I therefore assumed that it would also affect growth rate or psa levels, so I too have stopped eating all 3 and was a heavy egg and chicken meat eater before. I have eggs 2-3 times a month now just because I love an egg breakfast. I am basically only eating yogurt from the dairy group of foods. No red meat either. Plant based diet with seafood as an added supplement, again because I love it. My psa has gone down from 18 to 16 after 1 month of this diet change. Could be a normal fluctuation tho will no more at next blood draw in August. I'll be checking with my doc on why no suggestion of a diet change.
The evidence is scant and contradictory. I would not lose any sleep over eating eggs.
