i do have trouble with noise. I go mad if somebody chews food next to me . Is this a symptom of ADHD ? Do you have such trouble? The problem is so big that I move away if somebody is eating .

I haven't seen that discussed here. But here is an article on the topic.

Not necessarily. But kind of. We tend to easily get distracted by things that bother us, and that behavior can be distracting. For me, old school heaters when I’m interviewing bugs the heck out of me. There are hoop earplugs that help some people. Noise canceling headphones are a thing too.

My partner thought I was losing my hearing because I would ask what he said. Turns out my hearing range is double that of regular people. Therefore more distractions.

Old school heaters... wow. I had to leave my work space once a week for the duration of time that some piece of equipment located on the roof of the building came on; it was deafening, and it was really weird to find out that it didn't bother anyone else... because no one else could hear it!

What are hoop earplugs?

I have misophonia. (And autophonia. And hyperacusis.) My poor spouse has to chew chips and use straws differently when in my presence! It's not fun. I have no idea how to cope with it when it's not appropriate to ask someone to chew differently or for me to move away. Are you always able to move away from the offending noise?

Not sure if it's an ADHD symptom? I have other diagnoses as well and it's very hard to know which symptom belongs to which disorder. 😕

I know asd has issues with sensitivity, but not sure if adhd does. I am seeing a correlation, but not sure if there’s causation.

i had to switch cubicles one time bc a supervisor near me chewed ice ALL DAY LONG n it grated on my nerves. i was new to ADHD diagnosis at the time n still very angry about late diagnosis. i was baffled by the idea that i personally had to change my whole being in order not to be too “ extra” for neurotypical folks, meanwhile this self absorbed, ice chewing chick saw nothing wrong with chomping something like ice all day and this somehow wasnt considered maladaptive ?!?! lol lol

so yea, i think alot of us adhd’ers have unique sounds, smells, stuff that we are hyper sensitive too.
