After 4 years away from Adderall, it doesn't have the same kind of effect as it did before.

I was prescribed Adderall for 14 years, having moderate success with it. I had gotten very ill and was in 2018 diagnosed with small nerve fiber damage of unknown origin. Learning to live with that crazy neuropathic pain nearly killed me, and I took a break from Adderall. I just recently started back on it, and even with 5mg IR tabs twice a day, I'm getting the stimulant effect physically, but none of the focus. Going up in dose/ or Ext Release only makes my heart pound/ jittery, I'm stuck. Any insight would be appreciated.

I would humbly just suggest that you tell your doctor what you’re experiencing. If my heart was pounding, I personally would not feel comfortable with that. I’m 60 now. I need to find the right non- stimulant med for myself, with my doctor. I wish you the very best!

Talk with your doctor. Dextroamphetamine is one of two active ingredients in Adderall. Maybe Dextroamphetamine immediate release or Dexedrine extended release would work better.

It might be the generic you are taking. If you have taken only one generic this time. You might want to try a generic from another company. Our bodies change and a slightly higher dose might work. If 10 mg immediate release gives you unwanted side effects. You can try 7.5 mg immediate release. I agree it is time consuming because you have to cut the tablets but it might be the answer.

Wow, I completely forgot what we're dealing with, now that you mention it...generic drug houses. Thanks for bringing that back into my mind. I had been very fortunate with a mom & pop pharmacy my last 6 years back home. They were very selective about generic manufacturers. Cool, I have some investigating to do now.

Personally, I have little trust in the pharmaceutical manufacturers overseas. Other countries do not have the tight government regulations the US does. The FDA announces when they are going to make inspections. That gives manufacturers more than enough time to get things the way they are suppose to be. Look at all the recalls the FDA has issued on pharmaceutical in recent years. From talking with others in real life and what I have read on the internet. You are not alone in the problems you are having. You might want to try the brand and not a generic. The problem with that is most, if not all, insurance companies will not pay for brand medications when there is a generic on the market. Brand medications are very expensive compared to generics.

Hi Zee! I am currently having similar issues with my Adderall. I am now up to 40mg in the morning and an additional 20mg mid-day, and struggling to finish the day. And you’re right, going up in mgs does give one gitters. When that happens, I go for a short quick walk or take a flight of stairs, to burn off some of that energy and, I put off caffeine intake for a few hours. Lol Keep checking with your Doctors - Cardiologist to check all is well there and ADHD prescribing Dr. In the past, I was on both Vyvanse and Adderall. Adderall for the quick effect and Vyvanse for the longer effect needed for the 12-14 hr days. Currently, my psychiatrist is trying to get me on something new called MyDayis unfortunately, the insurance will not pay until I have used other generic drugs on their list. Who knows, the next generic may work and if not, my psychiatrist will be sending another prior authorization form to the insurance company. You must self advocate because no one knows you better. Sincerely-My
