My Dr retired last year in July. The practice said they could continue treatment but in December they said they couldn't. They said to check chadd.org but they don't show anybody in the area. I've looked but can only find therapists that don't do medication.
I tried to do the online thing.. but it seems like everytome you pay a fee they have even more stacked behind it to scam you for more money and never get to any treatment.

If you are taking Adderall, Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) or another Schedule II medications. The doctor has to have met with you at least once face to face to prescribe it. The doctor must also be in the same state as you are. Unless the doctor has a license to practice medicine in your state.
Whatever medication you are taking . there is no way of knowing what a new doctor will prescribe you. A new doctor may or may not prescribe you the same medication. A new doctor will more than likely test you to get a diagnosis of ADHD. It would be a good idea to get a copy of your medical records from you last doctor.
I've got my records. But the trouble was finding a Dr. Not sure where to look since I've only turned up therpists. The online thing didn't want medical records and charged to diagnose without talking to me and would only proply diagnose if you paid two more fees ....
Look for Psychiatrists in your area that accept your insurance. You might have to see a few before you find one that is the right fit. Therapists cannot prescribe medication.
Thats why i came here to ask how? Once internet searches throw me in a loop for the wrong direction endlessly I assumed ask around on how one goes about finding one other then searching online and not finding them. Saying find one with out saying how to do so is like saying fix the thing you don't know how to do by just fixing it with no direction. Just iys been four months of searching and the results have been several hundred therpists who all told me they can't help only the last one a few days ago pointed out therpists can't offeredication treatment..... not sure why they couldn't say that for so long but just aggravated most "help" for adhd stuff if idk... do the thing
.. whatever that thing is... its like the blind being told to read the directions...
Put "psychiatrists in your city, your state" in your search engine. Each doctor has their own way of prescribing. There are no guarantees a new doctor will prescribe the same medication at the same doses your last doctor did right away. Some might not prescribe it at all. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to start seeing one. It will probably be expensive in the beginning. A new doctor will want to test you.
By the way, most states do not allow psychologists to prescribe medications. Some family doctors prescribe ADHD medications. But they need medical proof you have been diagnosed with ADHD. No reputable doctor will accept a online therapist saying a patient has ADHD..
But I've done that and it didn't produce results... hence a post looking for better ways of finding them. Maybe there was a good website that actually point towards listing, or networking tool, or suggestions on how to find good resources, maybe others had tried the chadd resource thing and also are unable to find anything hitting aimilar snags. So.ething better then just keep googling and getting the same results. I'm in Texas the results from chadd point me to 300 to 400 miles away on other sides of the state. Local searches give therpists and getting g psychology today to look at psychologists so far has given me some actual psychologists but not accepting new patients.
Just looking if there is a different way that gets me in touch with the people willing to take new patients. There's apparently some in my area as there are people getting treatment but I don't the know the secret handshake or decoder ring to get in the know.
I just keep getting alot of the same answer of internet search it and getting back to square one and told to goto square one to get to square one and it doesn't ever seemly end. Crated the post in hopes of finding some method to find the dr.s without repeating the endless cycle of internet search to produce internet search...
I'm in Texas and just typed psychiatrists into Google maps. Read reviews and then made a choice. It could be a challenge you're facing though if you're in west Texas. I've had that trouble before myself and never really found a great option for psychiatrist nearby. In that case, your PCP can often prescribe you medicine to continue on the treatment path, so you can try that too and maybe ask them to recommend a psychiatrist. Sometimes this can help get past "not accepting new patients" hurdles. Good luck!!
Contact the practice that your doctor retired from, and ask for recommendations or a referral. They should know about psychiatrists or other doctors in the area.
You can also try asking for information on doctors and psychiatrists in your area from the closest hospital, city or county government offices.
If you are nearby another state, you can check with doctors offices across the state line and ask if any of the doctors are licensed in Texas as well.
I think i found one on zencare. saw in a youtube video that reddit has helpful tips to finding a provider. I had asked my previous provider and they simply told me to google it or ask chadd.org .... which only pointed me to travel 300 to 400 hundred miles across state to very very expensive dr.s I don't think it should be 400-600 a month to receive treatment... hence the asking on here after throwing up my arms in frustration. Im thoroughly not near another state as im more near the middle areas of texas the next nearest state is possibly LA at several hundred miles away.
Im aware there are people getting treatment and plenty that sell off their extra medications, but I'm not the type to know who those people are just always catch wind of someone that gets ahold of someones extras they sell. They are never too keen on telling who they buy from so i can ask who their dr is. I had been trying to find others with adhd in my area to ask them who their dr. is but most i can find are in very similar boats. Having been left to figure everything out after their dr.s retired or quit treating adhd.
I think its something to do with the primary care physicians all stopping treatment of adhd due to legal concerns and it seems mostly dr.s that charge a large amount are the only ones wishing to treat adhd. most that ive found that are taking medication for adhd are only doing so for the high with no need for the medication. Its like the laws got tight enough to choke out the people who need the medication so that only wealthy people can take it down here.
most of the dr.s that treat adhd only want to do therapy or are completely averse to medication. I don't know if its a bible belt thing or just the mass influx on people moving in that are bringing too many alternative ideas into the state but everything has been very messed up the last few years.
In exactly this situation and have been for awhile. The only psychs I can find are private practices that don't accept insurance, those that only do telehealth (and therefore can't prescribe stimulants if that's what you need), or that refuse on principle to prescribe them. No offense to others but I don't understand why they think you just haven't thought of "just googling it" yet....
Do you have a primary care? If not, that should be easier to find, and its their job to help you or refer you. If someone is part of a bigger practice or hospital or other medical facility, they're more likely to take insurance and be connected to other doctors. Definitely make sure you have records of being prescribed the medication and officially diagnosed--while that probably won't make them just easily prescribe you more, hopefully it can take away their immediate assumption that wanting adhd treatment means wanting to get high...
Along these lines, I've found a few better options when searching for mental health practices or centers than for individual psychiatrists. I'm in Indiana though, which is nowhere near as rural as it sounds like you are. I was also told by someone who couldn't see me or find other options for me to try calling 211 or 311 or something, a general resource line.
I also think the online stuff seems sketchy and predatory--you pay the "subscription fee" AND f9r each appointment and all the other costs. When I posted this question though, someone said they went through that service just for an initial appointment. They can only prescribe stimulants in some states, esp since it's telehealth, but that person said the doctor they saw worked with them to find someone local who would be able to.
I feel like there's no way to do this without trial and error, and it's too expensive to risk not even getting help 😞
Well the dr that retired was my primary care physician. The office just doesn't seem to care on any level. They basically told all the patients he was seeing tough luck. I heard those he saw personally on his last visits got recommendations but i had to see one of his understudies i guess. Actually most of the other dr's i could see there if he was out have all left at the beginning of 2022 and the practice itself is very anti adhd now. They treat it like the plague and are less then helpful. I only went to that PCP for the adhd... I guess i should look for a new one... That will prolly involve a lot of travel as well, whats moved into the nearby cities(used to be towns) are way too expensive for me.
Im just south of the metroplex in the super migration population hyper boom. Or in short everybody in the USA seemly is moving to my area of Texas from the lock downs of the covid and businesses moving in the last few years. I can tell you a near 4000% population increase really jacks up an area in horrific ways. most of the drs for adhd have closed. what ones are left seem to be milking the out of state people moving in. The closest i could find was 500 for first visit and 300 for each other visit while wanting visits 2 to 3 times a month..... which is just something I'm priced right out of. and thats only the cheapest of two i had found from everything online.
But yes im still in a rural area.... for now...people wont be happy till the metroplex spans from New Mexico to Louisiana and there no grass or trees left in the state......
I did manage to figure out the secret at least for this area. You call either a medication management facility or a rehab facility. Fun fact places that get tons of people that are legit drug seekers, have a very easy time spotting people with real adhd. They will get you in touch with a doctor for treatment asap. The places they recommended me to do not pop up on anything i've been pointed to for months. But got appointment for saturday and have medical records handy. Place isn't to far at 50 miles away and visits are cheaper without insurance then with???
So apparently that is the secret who knew? Follow the drug seekers( they are good at finding drugs after all) . If you actually have adhd you'll get actual answers and help.
Yeah the online stuff is super sketchy. People needing medication for adhd do not need several hundred dollars in free float for months without getting treatment...
i kept getting appointments canceled and moved for two months. Gave a melt down call and got the appointment fee back.
