Do short acting or longer acting stimulants work better for your school-related focus needs?

Hi!

I’ve tried vyvanse and Concerta and have found that I never can reach a focus peak with the longer acting stimulant medication- they don’t seem to prescribe Adderall or Dexyamphetamine often where I live, but since I have a tried to take meds around my best focus times- 4-11pm, I still feel that I would be able to focus better ( connecting my thoughts together for thinking purposes) with a shorter acting that so I can target my best thinking opportunities. I can’t take something that takes 3 hours to work and then my mood to work is already fading. Not sure if this makes sense, it I guess I’m saying I would prefer something shorter and more intense to make the most of my peak focus instead of attempting to stretch sub-optimal focus over a longer period of time. What have your experiences been with short acting vs. Longer acting or slow release stimulant meds.

I completely understand what you mean and I also like being in control of my dose. I have Adderall now but most doctors have to try the non-stimulants first, it's a legal/addiction issue.

Some patients need extended release and immediate release. Who told you doctors in your area do not prescribe Adderall or Dextroamphetamine? Have you seen several doctors? I agree with Spirit_Blue most doctors are prescribing non stimulants first due to addiction concerns.
