10 mg of Adderall.

How many days does it take for 10 mg of Adderall to work? I read somewhere that it was supposed to kick in after about 40 minutes. I took my first Adderall about 2 hours ago and I don’t feel any kick-in. I actually feel nothing. Maybe I need to wait few days. Any thoughts on this?

Hello:

Adderall does indeed “kick in” fairly quickly; I notice the difference within 40 minutes. I suggest you contact either your prescribing doc or your pharmacist. If you are taking other medications they may have an effect on how your body works with the Adderall. Another possibility is something you eat or drink may quash the treatment; regardless your provider(s) should be able to help.

One other possibility is that Adderall may not be the best med for you. Again, your provider should be able to help.

The upside to all of this is you should be able to tell when a medication is a decent fit pretty quickly, as opposed to antidepressants which can take 6 to 8 weeks before they start to have any benefits.

I’m thinking everyone responds differently to each medication. It would be good to give it a few days and check in with your prescribing MD. They may recommend a different dose or different med.

My doctor raised the dose to 20 mg. It is working pretty well. My brain is actually responding. It’s a new feeling for me.

I’m very happy to read the news. I know exactly what you are experiencing re: your brain kicking in. I went through the same type of experiences and I found it exciting and calming, all at the same time. Good luck with everything!
