I just reqd about mydayis thats basically thw same ingredients +1 as adderal, and I'm noticing I need more to get any releif of my symptoms at times, even causing me to feel sleepy after dosage. Has anyone switched to mydayis, qnd if so what were the advantages or disadvantages if any? did you feel less effected by the wear off point of the day when adderal starts to make you lag. I'm taking up to 30 mg 3x day instant release. Barely notice help and its effecting my marriage and family relationships and constant rambling. Need advice

Hi there, I have Inattentive ADHD, and was not diagnosed until my mid 20s. I have studied ADHD for a few years now and am in grad school to become an MFT Psychologist to help people with this very condition. I myself take a low dose stimulant medication with a group of helpful supplements to help fight off the bad side effects that come with continued stimulant use. Unfortunately after taking stimulant ADHD medication, a large amount of negative side effects can start to occur. Also after taking stimulant medication for around 6 months or more, the neurotransmitters the stimulant medication helps out with (Dopamine, Serotonin, Norepinephrine) will start to deplete, which is why negative side effects start popping up, like irritability, apathy, and feeling like the medication is no longer working. This might occur even earlier on, especially the irritability (this happened to me really early on). This is why I highly recommend supplements to take with the medication, to combat negative side effects, help eliminate the irritable/emotional come down once the medication wears off as well, and help the medication work to its best potential. This will unfortunately happen regardless of what stimulate most people take.

These Supplements help greatly with multiple things, and have helped me and some of the clients I have seen that suffer from negative side effects.

1. N-Acetyl Tyrosine: This supplement helps boost Dopamine and Norepinephrine, those are the two neurotransmitters most stimulant medications work with. The crash that happens after the medication wears off is because those two neurotransmitters are lower temporarily, which is why people experience irritability, sadness etc. I take N-Acetyl Tyrosine an hour or 30min before my medication wears off and thankfully have not experienced the crash of medication ever since. Depletion of those two neurotransmitters is one of the reasons why stimulant medication stops working, and this supplement really helps out in that regard.

2. I take a supplement called R-Alpha Lipoic Acid which is known to one of the most powerful antioxidants out there. It really helps the medication work to its full potential while fighting off oxidation. Stimulant medication creates a large amount of oxidation that is not good for the body, and that can cause physical discomfort as well as mood swings because of it. This supplement helps my body feel at ease, and helps me mentally to mellow out.

3. L-Tryptophan: this supplement is helpful for increasing Serotonin levels, since people with ADHD lack this neurotransmitter as well, especially the Hyperactive and Combined Type subtypes of ADHD, it is highly beneficial. This supplement brings up the mood, and helps the body relax.

4. CoQ10 to keep his heart rate and blood pressure from rising and staying at a safe level. This is common with stimulant medication.

5. A good multivitamin with antioxidants.

If any of this sounds helpful and of your interest, you can click my pic and it will take you to my profile where I have a link in my bio that includes all these supplements as well all the ones I personally take. I am not selling anything, the link will take you to a helpful google word doc I made that includes information on each supplement, what places sell it, and how much it costs. Hope this helps.

Not all supplement brands are of the same quality. Which brand do you take?

Indeed, I agree. I have a pretty strict diet and avoid consuming atrificial ingredients, high fructose corn syrup etc. This is why I take and reccomend the company Jarrow Formulas (my favorite company), Source Naturals and Nature's Way if you decide to take herbs. Theres some other good companies, just look at the ingredients and make sure they don't have the harmful stuff.

Thank you! Amazing info.. More than my doctor would take time to tell me.

It’s really nice to have someon so knowledgeable here with us. I get an appointment with a psychiatrist on the 23 of this month. I had gotten off all of my medications, because I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. I got super depressed and also got a lot of physical pain everywhere with it. My mind was filled with all my failures and thoughts of “almost” everyone that had treated me wrong in a big way. These thoughts were just sitting there in my brain and I could not get rid of them. I was also paralyzed with inactivity. I couldn’t get rid of these thoughts and I wasn’t sleeping much either. My doctor put me back 2mg of klonopin and all these thought vanished overnight. I’ve never abused my meds and these 2mg of klonopin always work for me. I never need to take anymore and they don’t stop working. I’m not sure what will happen when I see the ADHD psychiatrist.

You're very welcome, glad to be of some form of help. I am really sorry to hear about your troubles, and give you credit for still fighting to get help, keep it up. Interestingly enough, I at one point thought I had bipolar disorder due to changing from being quite angry, intense, sad, melancholy, to being content and happy, then the cycle happened all over again. I learned in my mid 20s that there existed not one but 3 different types of ADHD. I only knew of the Hyperactive type and after looking at the symptoms I really could not relate. It was not until my mid 20s that I came across the Inattentive subtype of ADHD, and was like "WOW, that's 100% me". I came to learn from my studies that Inattentive types, are usually more introverted, can be really quite, day dream frequently and constantly look like they are staring off, are really introspective, are quite deep, highly lack motivation, are emotionally more vulnerable to certain instances which in return gets them sad and mad frequently, have slow onset sleep which makes getting to sleep a major issue, and that when we do not eat or sleep well we usually get extremely irritable and intense. The reason why this subtype of ADHD is usually misdiagnosed as Dysthymia (persistent mild depression), Bipolar disorder and a few others is because Inattentive ADHD shares multiple characteristics as those I mentioned. Also Inattentive ADHD is not as easy to diagnose as the Hyperactive subtype of ADHD in which kids/people who have it are usually rather hyperactive, impulsive, disruptive; these are all mostly outwardly physical manifestations, quite contrary to the quite, sedentary, and usually introverted Inattentive subtype. Also keep in mind that there is a 3rd subtype of ADHD called the combined subtype. This is when there is a mix of both the hyperactive and inattentive subtype. The ratio is not exactly 50/50, it varies from person to person. I have worked with clients and have friends who are combined types and it is always interesting to note the variety in this ratio. Combined Type ADHD, as studies have demonstrated, is the most common type of ADHD.

If you were mistakenly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it could be that you maybe perhaps might have the Inattentive subtype of ADHD. I have a video series I made of the issues people with Inattentive ADHD face from Elementary school through adulthood. I recommend you check them out if you're interested. You can find the link to them by clicking on my profile pic, which will take you to my profile, then just click on my bio and the link will be there. Hope this helps

Have either of your doctors performed a genetic panel on you? One of the major findings from my panel was that my body doesn’t create the enzyme necessary for the digestion and utilization of folic acid. My doctor put me on methylated folic acid, which ended up helping me significantly.
