Feeling hopeless

Hello, I am a mother of a 30 year daughter suffering from ADD. She was diagnosed with it 22 years ago. She stopped taking meds and stop going to counseling in her junior year in high school.

She moved out a couple of years ago. She’s been up and down. Not depressed, however has a hard time keeping a job. It took her 12 year to get an Associate Degree. She hasn’t had insurance to be diagnose again as an adult. I am hoping to get her diagnosed when her insurance is activated in December.

I am trying to be supportive in the mean time but feeling overwhelmed with her lack of time management and attention to her priorities. She Is trying but can’t execute

Has anyone had scanning done? It appears there are many types of ADD. I’ve also read medication doesn’t help. Thought?

I too have an adult child who rejected the idea of medication, and the whole diagnosis of ADD in general, in late high school. I basically nursed him through his diploma, and he went out on his own after graduation to jobs that lead nowhere, and jobs he couldn't hold on to. He recently came back to an adult diagnosis, and since on medication is finding many answers. I would encourage you to stay after her to get diagnosed again, and to try some of the new medications and variants of standard ones. My son is looking forward to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other tools to use in his life in order to function at a higher level. He has finally realized how much time he has lost spinning his wheels. I am sad for him, but very hopeful at the same time.

I've not heard of nor investigated brain scans, but would like to hear more about the subject if anyone out there has any information to share.
