Hi, I have suffered with acne for around 10years now! After trying everything the GP could possibly prescribe i was so fed up and finally insisted that GP referred me to dermatology. I had my appointment with the dermatologist today and they have prescribed Roaccutane 40mg daily which I am starting tomorrow. I feel like finally at age 30 I maybe getting somewhere with my acne. I've read about the side effects and was wondering if anyone has any hint or tips before I start?
Thank you in advance 😊

Depending on the severity of the acne I would suggest taking a lower dose such as 20mg. The research shows increased dose does not significantly improve results and the side effects are far worse. You can expect very dry lips and the skin may peel off the palms of your hands and soles of your feet although this normally happens early on and is temporary. You may have blood noses from time to time. You will need to the avoid exposure to sunlight and will have sore muscles and joints especially if you are active.
I started on the same dose as you and after about 5 days my acne was worse for a few days which was predicted but then it got better really quickly. I had dry lips and dry eyes but that was it. It had a significant impact. Good luck and I hope it goes according to plan. Any side effects are worth it.
Hi LauraR91, I just wanted to check with you regarding how you are getting along. I am 30 as well and have been dealing with acne for many years now. My dermatologist has asked me to go on Roaccutane. I’m really scared seeing some of the side effects. Have you noticed any improvement? What about side effects? Do you need to see the doctor every month with blood test results?LauraR91
