My son just started concerta 4 days ago. I had really hoped to be able to hold off on medications but he was having increasing problems at school due to his impulsiveness and also he just had his neuropsych eval repeated because he is behind in reading and I wanted to rule out a learning disability and the psychologist thinks his delays are all related to his ADHD and her recommendations was to start meds so between the 2 things we decided to start. My question is if Concerta worked for your child did you notice a difference right away or did it take time? I really thought we would see a big difference right away and I’m just not seeing much. Also he has been saying it feels like something is stuck in his throat has anyone’s child complain of this and did it get better? Otherwise I haven’t noticed any other side effects but also not a big benefit either. He’s still talking a ton, pacing the house while he talks, will still lash out at his sister but maybe not quite as bad, and listening ears are still off most the time! He is 7 and on the starting dose.

Concerta Question
Medication has been such a big help for our son. There is a lot to work on: type, dose and timing. We were told by a Child Psycharitist that when every thing is dialed in 60% of the symptoms will stop. I can say for us is was more like 80-90% of the symptoms stopped. I have a saying.. when it is working... it will work.
I recommend you keeping in close contact with his doctor and reach out within 4-5 days.if nothing changes. They will help to make the proper adjustments. Our son needed a higher dose of medicine when he took it. At first, I was nervous, but trusted we would see progress.
I have posted a number of times, that I asked our son a few years after being steady on medication if he remembered the side effects (he was old enough to know) he said nope and ran and played. I think the changes were harder on me than him.
Hope it all goes well for you guys.
