7 year old dtr with ADHD

Hello! I highly recommend taking your daughter to Dr. Elizabeth Holland in Anacortes, WA. She is amazing! We drove a few hours to see her for my son, it was worth the drive.

Hello, and welcome!

I was in the portland and Salem areas so I can’t help much on your area, but ask your insurance for a list of providers in your area, and google search each of them. Medical providers now have to have their synopsis and specializations online, so after a 4 hour research, I have found a great counselor after many years of ones that didn't fit or understand me. I recommend play therapy.

You can also choose between in person and Telehealth. For me, Telehealth works better, as I get anxious with people in person, but usually kids prefer in person since the counselors have cool toys and have experience with teaching concepts to help through play.

If you want to go the medication route, I do recommend getting a psychiatrist as well. You can also get a gene sight test that will tell you which meds will have adverse effects. When my kid was 8 and tried her first med, she started getting tics, and they havent fully gone away in times of stress.

Qualifying a doctor has some helpful criteria,

1. The doctor should have a good percentage of their practice in treating ADHD.

2 The doctor should be affiliated with a ADHD organization.

3. The doctor should have training or a lot of training in children. Pediatricians are fine developmental pediatricians are even better Board certified child And adolescent Psychiatrist. and psychologist and therapist. But again remember, they have to have a lot of experience and a deep understanding of what ADHD is and what it isn’t.
