Hi! I'm 53. I'm still looking around for a group. How old is your child?

54yo here with a 10yo daughter. If a group doesn't exist, we should start one.

Are we saying that we feel like there are different struggles for moms in the 40/45 plus range? I could agree with that too some extent.

I'm 46 with an 11 year old and 23 year old with ADHD. I have a 3 year old a well. I take it all day by day, sometimes hour by hour. 😊

Let's see what works day wise and start a virtual meet up to share experiences and resources.

I'd love to hear more about your struggles with the 23 year old. It seems like so much more support and advice is available for people with older children. Our child was not diagnosed until adulthood and had already started college. I feel like it's a whole different world, but it has its unique challenges. I'm finding it hard to find others with similar struggles.

My 23 year old has her ups and downs. She has a full time job and I'm proud of her for what she does. But there's a lack of focus and goal orientation and financial mgt. I have check ins with her every few weeks but I'm noticing that's she's been distant and down on herself lately. She's not on medication any more and we're talking about her getting back on it to help with her impulse control and overall emotional health.

What are your struggles?

My daughter lives across the country and we have very little visibility into what's happening. It seems like there are problems, but her dad and I are being shut out.

Hi, I am in same situation. Daughter lives across country; she will not speak to us. She was diagnosed as adult, and looking back, all the signs were there but she was well behaved at school growing up and was just, what I thought, a normal elementary school kid...college was rough but she made it and is working fulltime and we are very proud of her. It used to break my heart and depress me that she's cut us off, but I am hopeful she'll one reach out.

I'm responding to my own text to see what we think about a meeting in March.

What day of the week would you be available for the monthly meeting via Zoom or Google Meet?

54 with a 17 yo daughter. One thing no one ever mentioned in the discussions about waiting to have children is the co-occurrence of adolescence and teen hormonal changes on the kids’ side with menopause on the mom side. It’s like nature’s cruel joke. Personally, I ended up needing HRT to survive. So much better, but still so hard.

This is for everyone in this thread: Would a Meet Up (virtual or occasionally in-person) or a Facebook group or Zoom be preferable for most folks?

And what are preferences for frequency? We are all so busy so I think once a month or twice a month is the best frequency. Thoughts?

I think once a month is a good start …

Hello, if you have a get together can you add me. I’m new to this site. I’ve got a bonus son with ADHD who is 13 and my son who is 8. It’s been a blessing and challenge figuring all of this out and learning how to best support them. Thanks.
