Anyone have experience with Latuda? My 16-year-old has ADHD with occasional bouts of extreme emotional dysregulation. She has been on meds for a long time (Adderal, Lamotrigine, etc) and we have a great psych NP who manages her meds. She has unpredictable bouts of severe rage during which she sometimes damages things - including her own belongings - and can be very verbally abusive (lots of yelling, cursing, etc). During these times, she cannot be reasoned with, and once she's "come down", she is genuinely remorseful. Now that she is getting older, the worry is that she will do something in a rage that has lasting consequences. We have worked on it from the cognitive side, trying to get her to understand her own triggers, learn and practice alternative behaviors when she feels herself getting worked up, etc, but she's not self-aware enough yet for that to help. Her NP suggested we consider Latuda, an atypical antipsychotic, because it's shown promise for these types of ADHD rage episodes.
Anyone have experience they can share? TIA!!

My 16 year old grandson has been dealing with anger issues all of his life. He had been on Risperdone for a long time. We have combined it with other meds and lots of counseling.
He also has major anxiety and we are working on getting him into homebound school.
So many things set him off but he doesn't get violent like he used to. Can't stand his brother singing, doesn't like the way people laugh, loud noises.
He's most comfortable at home in his cocoon.
Have not tried latuda. Getting meds right is such a challenge and so many of them have made his anger worse, including meds that were supposed to help with anger.
You might want to try looking at broad spectrum micronutrients which can work well for emotional regulation. Hardy Nutritionals Daily Essential Nutrients and True Hope are the two companies.
Your daughter sounds very similar to my son, also 16. For the past 2 years, he has been like this and I'm starting to wonder if his meds are contributing to it. He has not been this way his whole life only the past few years when we started mixing mood stabilizers and stimulants. He has tried Latuda and I'm not sure it did anything. It was extremely expensive and I didn't see enough results to justify continued use. He also started having weird side effects after 3 months. My son is also remorseful after and says it's like he doesn't realize he's acting this way. He is currently in a residential treatment center and I'm adamant about getting his meds straightened out. It's so frustrating and I don't want him to keep taking meds that don't work. Does your doctor have any concern that the meds might be contributing to the anger?
