My son is 6 as well and in 1st grade and the preasure and structure of what was expected was causing him to have increase in impulsive behaviors, outburts, and he was needing to be removed from class all the time. He is very advanced with his reading and with writing. He was not wanting to do his work and was ripping his papers in class. He was starting to see kids not want to be around him and were not picking him for partners. We decided to go to pediatrician and talk to them and we started mediation. We saw immediately a change on the first trial of short acting mediation but noticed he was not stabilized well and had a roller coaster effect when his meds wore off. He then trialed Jornay Pm and the dose was 20 mg at night he woke up very early and was not sleeping well. He struggled with side effects and was more emotional. We noticed his attention was better but he was not hungry af all. We then changed to Vyvanse 10mg chewable in the morning and his appetite returned in full force and he was starting to have good days. We had 504 meeting yesterday with his public school and he is making more friends getting picked as a partner and no longer needs to come out of his classroom for behaviors. He is the same funny happy kid but not an emotional yoyo all the time. He tells me all about his love for school now and all that he learans. His assignment are very neat and coloring is beautiful now. He is not perfect with his behavior and we plan to do Cognition Behavioral therapy at school to help. I was on fence too but once we started seeing the changes we knew we made the right choice to start meds. Hope it helps in ykur decision.

Hi, well medication is not a good option at the start of the treatment plan for ADHD. Behavioral therapies are the best for children. It helps to control symptoms that include an inability to focus, being easily distracted, hyperactivity, poor organization skills, and impulsiveness.
